Timothy Ernster has officially started his new job as Lake Havasu City manager.
The City Council approved Ernster's hiring in August, agreeing to an annual compensation package of $145,000. Ernster, who was busy in meetings throughout the day, could not be reached for comment.
During an interview in August, Ernster pointed out similarities between Glendale and Lake Havasu City in regards to growth.
"I think that a lot of the issues are similar to the issues we were facing surrounding our high-growth periods during the '80s," Ernster said.
Ernster also said he wouldn't have a problem adjusting in a smaller community. He said Lake Havasu City is growing into an urban environment with many amenities.
"I don't look at Lake Havasu City as a rural environment," he said.
Ernster worked for the City of Glendale for 25 years in several areas, including administrative services, community development and neighborhood services. He also served as interim city manager in Avondale in 2000.
Ernster was one of 97 original applicants for the job vacated by former city manager Bruce Williams, who resigned in January after Councilwoman Kristen Lietz-Aldridge accused him of sexual harassment. Williams, who received a severance package totaling $218,000, denied the allegations.
Lloyd Harrell, a retired city manager from Chandler, was hired here as interim manager in February.
In addition to his salary package, Ernster also receives 120 hours paid vacation, a $500-per-month vehicle allowance and travel expenses.
