Web Extra: Three injured in crash just west of Parker.

Monday, December 11, 2006 2:58 PM MST

Three people were injured and traffic tied up for more than two hours in a two-vehicle crash near Echo Lodge, west of Parker on Monday afternoon.

According to California Highway Patrol officials, the accident occurred just after 1 p.m.

“A van was headed eastbound on California Highway 62 and a tanker was westbound. The van crossed the center line and side-swiped the tanker,” said CHP Officer W. LaFave.

Nature of the injuries was not disclosed but LaFave said one victim was airlifted out after suffering a chest injury.

A second medical airship was requested then called off, with emergency service personnel opting to evacuate the other two victims via ground transport. One reportedly suffered an injury to the abdomen, the other to the leg.

Though the tanker did not lose its load, it did remain on the highway following the collision, stalling traffic in both directions for hours. Assistance was called for from Parker and La Paz County.

Identities of the victims are currently withheld pending investigation.
