The Windsor Beach area will receive $1 million in improvements thanks to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
State transportation heavy hitters paid a visit to the city Friday, as the ADOT board gathered in Lake Havasu City for its monthly meeting.
ADOT awarded a $1 million grant to the State Parks department for improvements to roads and facilities at Windsor Beach.
"It's basically an upgrade to the roads," said Michael Kondelis, Kingman district engineer for the transportation department. No new camping facilities or other structures would be built, he said.
The grant was only one of the items of business taken up by the board in Lake Havasu City. The board now rotates its meetings throughout the state to allow input and participation from municipalities beyond the major metropolitan areas, a move praised by city spokesman Charlie Cassens. "It's a tremendous policy that the board has adopted," Cassens said.
Other items of significance for the city were discussed that could have a big impact on the city.
One proposal, to build an enhanced rest stop on I-40 near the California border, could steer more drivers south to visit the city, said Mark Clark, interim director of public works. "It would serve as a gateway," Clark said. FOR FULL STORY, SEE TODAY'S NEWS-HERALD.
