Lake Havasu City’s skateboarders and bike riders must be on Santa’s nice list this year.
The Tinnell Memorial Sports Park Committee was notified this week that the park was selected to receive a $10,000 grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation.
“I found out about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday,” Tinnell Committee Chair Rachelle Duncan said. “I knew they were deciding yesterday, so I was waiting all day to hear. First thing I did when I got the e-mail was shoot it out to everybody supporting the effort all along.”
The Tinnell Sports Park is one of 10 receiving a $10,000 grant in the fall cycle of the Tony Hawk Foundation. Three projects ” Greensboro, Ala., Eureka, Calif., and Yakima, Wash. ” each received $25,000 grants.
The Tinnell Sports Park was the only Arizona project to be awarded a Tony Hawk grant.
It’s the latest in a series of good news supporters of the sports park received this month. A local foundation that has requested anonymity donated $10,000 to the project last week, and the Tinnell Committee was awarded an $8,000 prize package from the group Straight From the Hip.
