Buster Johnson wants the county to take a good look at how the health of citizens is looked after.
At issue is existing county code requiring health standards for transient living accommodations, including homeless shelters, campgrounds and RV parks. The code was passed by the board in November and required that all facilities that rent for 30 days or less to fall under the requirements.
However, a number of RV parks rent space and units for an entire season, especially during the winter months, and are exempt from the code. Johnson is seeking to redress the conflicting requirements.
Under the existing code, transient accommodations must submit to Environmental Health Department inspections of the plumping, toilet sewer and/or septic systems, as well as any areas used for food preparation, the potable water system, handling of trash and sleeping areas.
The board is also being asked to find the third phase of the Katherine Heights Townhomes project “supports Mohave County’s overall efforts to provide affordable housing to residents of Mohave County.”
Phase three would be 38 duplexes; with each unit have three bedrooms and two baths.
The first two phases of the development, along with Katherine Heights Villa, Is located on State Route 68 east of Bullhead City. If the board endorses the project, it allows the developer to apply for Arizona Low Income Housing Tax Credits.
The board meets in Kingman today starting at 9:30 a.m.
