Thursday, March 20, 2008 10:41 PM MST

In a pair of home contests against Glendale Cactus, Thursday, the Lake Havasu High School girls tennis team received its first losses of the season.

The Cobras topped the Knights, 8-1 and 7-2, dropping Havasu’s record to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in West Valley Region play.

“They were a lot stronger than they were last year. ... They’re deep and very strong,” Knights coach Donna Mares said. “It’s a little bit surprising.”

Julia Janis posted two of Havasu’s three victories, Thursday. Janis won her opening-round match at No. 5 singles, 10-4, and swung to a 10-8 victory in the second round of singles play.

Top-seeded Mackenzie Roesti rebounded from a 10-4 singles loss in the opener against Cactus to post an 11-9 triumph in her singles finale.
