James “Dale” Bettis

James “Dale” Bettis, 83, passed away Wednesday in Lake Havasu City. He was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Willow, Ark.; to Algie and Elva (Rogers) Bettis.



James moved to Lake Havasu City 18 years ago from Lakewood, Calif. He worked as an electrician and mechanic for Texaco Oil Company in Wilmington, Calif.; for 38 years. James was a member of Bethany Bible Church. He loved to travel across the country for months at a time, camping, fishing and hiking outdoors and also had lots of little hobbies.

James is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Phyllis Bettis; son, Dale Bettis Jr; daughters, Barbara Walker, Glenda Armstrong, Katherine Matthews; stepson, John R. Wenos; stepdaughters, Janis Fawson, Patti Katchka, Yvonne Gilmer, Cherilyn Hales; brothers, Roland T. Bettis, Roy Carlton Betttis, Charles Kenneth Bettis; 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be held at Lietz-Fraze Chapel on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Bethany Bible Church on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Words of wisdom and inspiration will be expressed by Pastor Jerry Adams. Burial will take place at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, Calif.

Donations can be made in James’s name to Bethany Bible Church School, 1200 Park Terrace, Lake Havasu City, AZ; 86404.
