Democrats gather picnic, politics

Sunday, August 17, 2008 8:45 PM MST

KINGMAN – Don’t look for doom and gloom from the Mohave County Democrats.

Following the lead of presumptive presidential nominee Barack Obama, the attendees at Sunday’s annual Democratic picnic in the Hualalpai Mountains called for change this election cycle.

“We’re looking for honesty and integrity in government. Obama has that,” said Andy La Porta, who described himself and wife Joanne as Kingman independents for Obama.

John Thrasher, making his second consecutive try to unseat incumbent U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., said he’s hoping the enthusiasm Obama’s campaign is generating translates into votes for him.

“We have our job right in front of us. Let’s rebuild America, let’s rebuild the middle class,” Thrasher said.

Mohave County remains strongly Republican in terms of voter registration. The June count, according to the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office, shows Mohave County has almost 41,000 registered Republicans against just 26,000 Democrats. But independent voters are gaining ground – almost 30,000 voters have not declared a party affiliation – and Dave Tunnell of Lake Havasu City said that’s good news for the Democrats.

“I get an amazing number of people that come up to me and say ‘are we going to win?’ I say yes,” said Tunnell, the chairman for District 3 of the Mohave County Democratic Central Committee. “There’s going to be a time when business people in this county won’t have to say they’re Republican just to do business. That day is coming soon.”

That day can’t come soon enough for Kingman resident Lee Sterling. She said it’s “tough to be a Democrat” in such a Republican community.

“The county is in bad shape. We need a change,” she said. “We need to get people in that expect more of their town(s). I see a major change coming (and) we need it.”

Patrick Gonzales of Kingman said he’s starting to see it in the response of young people. Earlier this year he started a Young Democrats organization in Kingman, recently started a second group in Bullhead City and said he’ll be making his way to Lake Havasu City in the coming weeks.

“The support is there,” Gonzales said. “The majority of people 18- to 30-years-old are following Obama. They feel a need for change.”

Gonzales group staged a Rock The Vote concert in Kingman recently and the Young Democrats donated all proceeds to the child immunization program at Kingman Regional Medical Center.

The Democratic call for “change” prompted two women to try their hand at candidacy. Pam Durbin of Lake Havasu City is seeking a seat in the Arizona House of representatives while Mary Landahl of Marble Canyon is running for state Senate.

“This is not something I thought I’d do, but I think people need to sit down and work together,” Durbin said.

Landahl agreed, saying,” In the Legislature, it’s not Republican versus Democrat. It’s rural versus urban. We need someone willing to negotiate.”

However, after eight years, all people who are not NEOCONS are seeing the insanity of their plans all around us - not one area of life is unaffected, is it? The NEOCONS in the Republican party are the cold-blooded sinners (bona-fide psychopaths - seriously, look up the definition) who's religious mantra is "I'm a sinner, so get over it and forgive me". The NEOCONS in the Democratic party (cheerful sociopaths) do the most illogical and delusional social engineering in the attempt to buy redemption through "good works" for the one-on-one iniquity they commit daily (usually they have a verse from Bible that they've tortured into a handy rationalization). You can't be cheap without becoming greedy and you can't be greedy without becoming cheap. Neither is a virtue, nor can any "government" stand that has nothing else in the way of "value" to offer. So much bs in the airwaves that no one heard Rome fall. Putin gets USA "psychology". That foreigner who is USA's envoy to the UN (what NEOCON bowel of hell did he come from?) asked "what does Russia want?" after Russia went in to South Ossetia to save the Russian workers that the Georgian President ordered slaughtered (must have been the voices in his head, huh?). What makes the mass media a sick diseased entity is how the pictures of "atrocity" that they are showing is what the Georgians did to the South Ossestians. NEOCONS are insane. We need to begin divorce proceedings - "incapatability" sounds about right - 2000 years of trying is enough. "

Senator Landrieu is an unrepentant earmarxist. She has opposed serious earmark reform efforts and opposed the earmark moratorium. Instead, Landrieu has used her perch on the appropriations Committee to take money from American taxpayers and send it to special interests. " The democratic article sure brought a lot of comments and it cracks me up. There is more bashing going on here than the politicians. Will it make a difference when it’s over? Personally I don’t see any change from any of the candidates it will just be different politicians to blame for the state of this country. The only way a drastic change will happen is to clean house in government. Our government is too big, out of control and to set in the way it operates. I am sick and tired of paying for all the different crap they have got us into. We have paid a lot of money for innovative energy development which is actually a military project but funding was easier under energy than military so that’s what they did. The last project I was working on was just this. This project was originally budgeted for 6 billion dollars and ten years. The project is currently 1 billion over budget at 13 years and not completed yet!! If it was an energy project then why were all branches of the military there all the time? I do know why but I can’t say where or what but it is a fact, don’t like the idea of jail time. Thomas Jefferson really hit the nail on the head when he did not want to allow lawyers to be politicians because they will create laws that the average person can’t understand. The majority of politicians are or were lawyers and just look at what they have done to this country. Talk about job security these people are doing a really good job of screwing everybody over at the same time they are protecting their personal agendas. My opinion of this is just plain disgusting and better get the K-Y jelly out because it is only going to get worse no matter who gets in. There will be no change by any candidate just more empty promises and higher taxes because congress is really in control. In basic terms the president is more of a puppet than anything and congress just pulls the strings that nod the head and make him wave. Mommy can I go out and play now? I spent 25 years working for the federal government and the waste of money I have personally witnessed could have paid for our glorious sewer system two or three fold and covered everybody’s bill for fifty years. Why was because they had to spend it to guarantee the next years funding. Saving money within the government means that next years funding will be cut, the more they spend the more they get. Didn’t matter what it was spent on just spend it. I’m not trying to be negative but I just don’t see any hope in any of the choices that are out there, just typical politicians blowing whatever kind of smoke they need to get the vote. I might not even vote this round because I just have no hope in any of them and it’s just more of a process to pacify the people to make them think they have a say. "

" As Paul Harvey would say, "The Rest of the Story."
This is something the American New Media seem to have left out.

How do you attract 200,000 Germans to an American presidential candidate's campaign rally in Berlin?

A. With the charisma and reputation of the candidate?
B. With a compelling political message?
C. With lots of advance advertising?
D. With the top two rock bands in Germany giving a free concert with the American candidate coming out for a short speech between the bands?

"D" of course. What the American media following and fawning over Obama failed to mention about his Berlin speech was why the crowds were really there. 95% of them could care less about Obama or American politics. They came to see a free concert with the German equivalents of Willy Nelson and Madonna headlining.

Obama was an unwelcome and boring interruption giving a political speech in a foreign language between the acts - which is why the crowd only gave lame applause a couple of times - after all, how many of them spoke English or cared less? Obama didn't care about the crowd either. His speech was really for the American media and the crowd was a backdrop for the photo ops. And the American media bit on it hook line and sinker and just sorta, kinda forgot to mention the rock bands that really drew the crowds. "

Here we go wrote on Aug 22, 2008 6:45 PM:

" Today, Sen. John McCain spoke to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Kansas City, MO. He spoke at length about the sacrifice paid by U.S. soldiers in Iraq, acknowledging “how little has been asked of others compared to their service” and declaring that the nation owes veterans “a debt that we can never fully repay.”
He also said that veterans should have access to “the highest quality health…care in the world” upon returning:

As President, I will do everything in my power to ensure that those who serve today and those who have served in the past have access to the highest quality health, mental health and rehabilitative care in the world. The disgrace of Walter Reed must not be forgotten. … Whatever our commitments to veterans cost, we will keep them, as you have kept every commitment to us. The honor of a great nation is at stake.

Not only has he refused to support the 21st Century GI Bill, which the Veterans of Foreign Wars endorsed last June, he has consistently voted against increasing funding for the Veterans’ Administration, which oversees all medical care for veterans:

– Voted AGAINST an amendment providing $20 billion to the VA’s medical facilities. [5/4/06]

– Voted AGAINST providing $430 million to the VA for outpatient care “and treatment for veterans,” one of only 13 senators to do so. [4/26/06]

– Voted AGAINST increasing VA funding by $1.5 billion by closing corporate loopholes. [3/14/06]

– Voted AGAINST increasing VA funding by $1.8 billion by ending “abusive tax loopholes.” [3/10/04]

– Voted AGAINST FOR a $650 million increase in veterans’ medical care funding. [8/1/01]

Though McCain has derided progressive universal health care plans as “a government takeover,” he is mum on the success of the VA, a government-run, integrated approach that, as Paul Krugman put it, is “one of the few clear American success stories in the struggle to contain health care costs.”

McCain’s zero-regulation, every-man-for-himself approach to health insurance would in effect “dismantle” the VA — what Krugman calls “a completely wrongheaded approach to health care.”
But when a reporter asked John McCain how many houses he owns, he stumbled and said, "I think -- I'll have my staff get to you.".

Not only does John McCain have trouble keeping track of all his houses, he looks at record gas prices and a crippling foreclosure crisis and thinks the economy is fundamentally "strong." And last weekend he said anyone making less than $5 million a year isn't rich.

This is the side of John McCain his campaign wants to hide.

The more we hear from John McCain about the economy, the more we see just how out-of-touch he is.

You don't have to be an economist to understand that we can't afford eight more years, or four more years, or even one more year of the same failed economic policies that George Bush has put in place.

Now we need your help to make sure the word gets out.

Watch our ad now and write a letter to your local papers:

http://my.barackobama.com/keepingtrack

If John McCain understood what Americans are dealing with, he'd know that we need to be doing more.

Barack has a plan to cut taxes for middle class families by $1,000 and offer students who perform community service a $4,000 tax break to pay for college tuition. But John McCain's tax plan does nothing for 101 million middle class families.

Barack will set the minimum wage to rise with inflation. But John McCain is more concerned about making sure limits on campaign contributions rise with inflation -- and he's voted against raising the minimum wage 19 times.

That's a difference that should be easy to remember.

Just like Veteran said. He had a job when the Democrats were in office and when the Repubs in office, he was without one. "

What happened to “One nation, under God, indivisible with justice for all”. There are various religions, cultures, beliefs and causing division among citizens and justice for all is just hidden behind the catering. Now we have Mexican Americans, Asian Americans and so on. Are they a Mexican or an American because they shouldn’t be allowed to be both. I don’t hear German Americans, Italian Americans, Polish Americans or any other ethnic group that came from the immigration of old they just proudly call themselves Americans. The leaders of this country are so busy taking care of the rest of the world that they have neglected to take care of number one, AMERICA. That is one big problem because if they don’t take care of number one, The United States of America, how do they expect to continue taking care of number two?? The CIA, MI6 are a bunch of overpaid fat incompetent goverment employees. Noone had any reliable data against the WMDs. As far as both Dems and REpubs. voted for the war on Iraq, based on the LIES that Bush and Cheney dreamed up about WMD and that false letter by a Iraq official.
Fact is McCain is a loose cannon. Expect a possibility United States to go to war with Iran and Russia. McCain has a loose mouth, and he says untruths and hurtful things and stupid things. Our country needs someone that can bring respect, dignity and honor back to America. Mc Cain doesn't fit that bill. He is known in Washington as being a loose cannon. And he doesn't come off being that intelligent. He is a liar and a spinner. He was in Baghdad in the green zone and tried to make out how safe it was there, informing the Americans it is safe there now, meanwhile 120 troops were on roofs looking down on him and two blackhawk helicopters hovering about plus he was surrounded by a entounage of troops. He supports torture.
He says he knows how to get Bin Liden.
I can go on and on about some of the stupid things he has said. His most famous:
McCain's craziest, most unstoppable McCain Moment: The senator said, while in Jordan, that it was "common knowledge and has been reported in the media that al-Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran, that's well known. And it's unfortunate." A few moments later, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, admiringly gazing at McCain until that moment, stepped up and whispered something in the presidential candidate's ear. McCain then blurted out: "I'm sorry, the Iranians are training extremists, not al-Qaeda."

Phew. Glad trusty Joe Lieberman was there to explain to the man of "experience," a man who wants to lead the free world, that Sunnis (Al Qaeda) and Shia (Iran) not only don't work together but are in direct conflict. We have only been at war there for five years, so I wouldn't expect Sen. McCain to concern himself with such trivial matters.
Bush has been a embarrassment and McCain will be more of one. But, yet again, we are use to the blunders of Bush. "

Also, the reaction that people had when the rumor started proves that this country still has a long way to go. The American people have some pre-concieved notion that Muslim's are bad people. Can someone please explain to me why? Muslims as a whole did not attack America. It is unfair to treat them as if they did. We need to treat each other with respect. That is a major problem in this country. If we could start respecting each other and each other's opinions and beliefs, we might actually be able to get things done. "

No Way wrote on Aug 18, 2008 8:55 PM:

" This is the best explanation of the damage this country will face if a Democrat like Obama becomes President.

"Questions for Obama" by George F. Will

"Senator, concerning the criteria by which you will nominate judges, you said: "We need somebody who's got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it's like to be a young teenage mom. The empathy to understand what it's like to be poor, or African-American, or gay, or disabled, or old." Such sensitivities might serve an admirable legislator, but what have they to do with judging? Should a judge side with whichever party in a controversy stirs his or her empathy? Is such personalization of the judicial function inimical to the rule of law?

Voting against the confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts, you said: Deciding "truly difficult cases" should involve "one's deepest values, one's core concerns, one's broader perspectives on how the world works, and the depth and breadth of one's empathy." Is that not essentially how Chief Justice Roger Taney decided the Dred Scott case? Should other factors-say, the language of the constitutional or statutory provision at issue-matter?

You say, "The insurance companies, the drug companies, they're not going to give up their profits easily when it comes to health care." Why should they? Who will profit from making those industries unprofitable? When pharmaceutical companies have given up their profits, who will fund pharmaceutical innovations, without which there will be much preventable suffering and death? What other industries should "give up their profits"?

ExxonMobil's 2007 profit of $40.6 billion annoys you. Do you know that its profit, relative to its revenue, was smaller than Microsoft's and many other corporations? And that reducing ExxonMobil's profits will injure people who participate in mutual funds, index funds and pension funds that own 52 percent of the company?

You say John McCain is content to "watch [Americans'] home prices decline. "So, government should prop up housing prices generally? How? Why? Were prices ideal before the bubble popped? How does a senator know ideal prices? Have you explained to young couples straining to buy their first house that declining prices are a misfortune?

Telling young people "don't go into corporate America," your wife, Michelle, urged them to become social workers or others in "the helping industry," not "the money making industry." Given that the moneymakers pay for 100 percent of American jobs, in both public and private sectors, is it not helpful?

Michelle, who was born in 1964, says that most Americans' lives have "gotten progressively worse since I was a little girl." Since 1960, real per capita income has increased 143 percent, life expectancy has increased by seven years, infant mortality has declined 74 percent, deaths from heart disease have been halved, childhood leukemia has stopped being a death sentence, depression has become a treatable disease, air and water pollution have been drastically reduced, the number of women earning a bachelor's degree has more than doubled, the rate of homeownership has increased 10.2 percent, the size of the average American home has doubled, the percentage of homes with air conditioning has risen from 12 to 77, the portion of Americans who own shares of stock has quintupled. Has your wife perhaps missed some pertinent developmen ts in this country that she calls "just downright mean"?

You favor raising the capital gains tax rate to "20 percent or 25 percent." You say this will not "distort" economic decision-making. Your tax returns on your 2007 income of $4.2 million show that you and Michelle own few stocks. Are you sure you understand how investors make decisions?

During the ABC debate, you acknowledged that when the capital gains rate was dropped first to 20 percent, then to 15 percent, government revenues from the tax increased and they declined in the 1980's when it was increased to 28 percent. Nevertheless, you said you would consider raising the rate "for purposes of fairness." How does decreasing the government's financial resources and punishing investors promote fairness? Are you aware that 20 percent of taxpayers reporting capital gains in 2006 had incomes of less than $50,000?

You favor eliminating the cap on earnings subject to the 12.4 percent Social Security tax, which now covers only the first $102,000. A Chicago police officer married to a Chicago public-school teacher, each with 20 years on the job, have a household income of $147,501, so you would take ano ther $5,642 from them. Are they under taxed? Are they rich?

This November, electorates in four states will vote on essentially this language: "The state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education or public contracting. "Three states: California , Washington and Michigan have enacted such language. You made a radio ad opposing the Michigan initiative. Why? Are those states' voters racists?

You denounce President Bush for arrogance toward other nations. Yet you vow to use a metaphorical "hammer" to force revisions of trade agreements unless certain weaker nations adjust their labor, environmental and other domestic policies to suit you. Can you define cognitive dissonance? [Cognitive dissonance is a psychological state that describes the uncomfortable feeling when a person begins to understand that something that person believes to be true is, in fact, not true.]

You want "to reduce money in politics." In February and March, you raised $95 million. See prior question. "

LET'S THINK BEFORE WE VOTE!!

Just how much Senate experience does Barack Obama have in terms of
actual work days? Not much.
From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to
the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory
committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That's how
many days the Senate was actually in session and working.
After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be
Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of
Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan.
143 days -- I keep leftovers in my refrigerator longer than that.
In contrast, John McCain's 26 years in Congress, 22 years of military
service including 1,966 days in captivity as a POW in Hanoi now seem
more impressive than ever. At 71, John McCain may just be hitting his
stride.

Think about IT!!!

This possible President of the United States !! Read Below and
Ask yourselves, is this REALLY someone we can see as the
President of our great nation!!!!

Below are a few lines from Obama's books; In his words!

>From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at
the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was
ingratiating myself to whites.'
From Dreams of My Father : 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive
sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something about him that made me
wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'It remained necessary to prove which side
you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out
and name names.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'I never emulate white men and brown men
whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the
black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought
in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'

And FINALLY the Most Damming one of ALL of them!!!
