" As a small business owner we know COde Enforcement very well. We have been contacted by them many times we had to file for conditional use permits to store vehicles on our property we had to put up fences with expensive screening even though we are in a commercial industrial area so nobody would see the cars. RIDICULOUS!! And this guy probaly doesn't even get a demand letter. Or obviously ignored it and deserves a fine looks like once again It's who you know. That is the only possible answer of how this was overlooked. If us business owners and local residents have to deal with the Code Violations why is this guy above it? "

" I would never for a moment consider volunteering any of my time to clean this property. What I would do is volunteer to attend some sort of march or protest at the code enforcement offices. If someone put something like that together I will be there.

Doesn't cleaning the mess up further undermine any action by the code enforcement people. Enforcement of code compliance was the only hope the community had of resolving this mess, now what? "

" Seize the property through Emanate Domain because Mr. Reed has abandoned it!
This is done everyday throughout this country when owners abandon their property, it is high time this was done here. "

Vicki wrote on Sep 10, 2008 7:53 PM:

" It is obvious that Mr. Reed must have had a tremendous amount of money or financial backers when he bought the EV property as it certainly wasn’t cheap. It is my understanding that the reason he has abandoned the EV project is that he has spent millions on another project that has become a financial fiasco. So, even though I understand the need for the City to upgrade the property to help boost revenue, and the desires of the citizens to volunteer to clean up the mess, it just doesn’t make sense that anyone should donate time or money to improving HIS property without some kind of compensation from Reed. If the City cannot legally take the property it seems that they could fine Mr. Reed to the point that he would give in and divert some of his investment monies into bringing the property up to acceptable standards. If that is not a viable concept and people go ahead and donate time and money to clean the place up, when and if Mr. Reed sells the property or begins to make a profit on it, he should be required to put every cent in time and material that is donated into a fund that will go towards another community project. That way at least those who do step up to the plate will eventually have their efforts go toward a permanent community improvement project and not benefit a financially challenged investor. "

" It's great that there are people who cared to take time and help clean it up. But didn't we just have an article in the paper about citing people who have cars and "junk" in their yards? I don't know why some business owners think they are above the law...it's just plain WRONG! I will have to go check out what the EV looks like now. Again, thanks for what you did. "

" Again we are maintaining this property? My hat's off to the volunteers who did the work. It was in great need of it. I don't understand why the city doesn't require Reed to maintain his own property. Those buildings look like a fire hazard/public nusiance to me.
So, Reed has gotten free landscape services and free parking lot surfacing in the last couple years.
    Send him a bill! "

" To HaHaHa: I don't care about Read or his issues. This was about making the EV look better for when the Wounded Warriors come to Havasu to raise money for all the wounded vets that the VA is unable to help. It is for my community, a place I want to be proud of. Who is the fool? The person that gets out and donates their time and energy for their community and the people in it or the complainer that sits back and does nothing except make excuses about why they are too lazy to get involved. You can't bring about change by sitting on your duff whining about every little thing, get involved, git R' done. "

Was it wrote on Sep 7, 2008 3:56 PM:

" Was it an ideal solution? No. The ideal solution was for the owner to do something. But since that wasn't happening, a group of people who care more about the community than those who sit on their keister doing nothing but complaining on a blog actually tried to make lemons out of lemonade. All you people who do nothing but complain on here aren't a part of any solution, no matter how much you pat yourselves on the backs here. "

    Thank you. "

" His stalling over doing anything with the English Village and the city being afraid to cite him for violating city code just convinvced a bunch of fools to do the improvements for him. So millionare Reed is rewarded for breaking our laws.

I don't see how the city can enforce any of its codes now. All anyone who is cited has to do is demand the same inaction from code enforcement and volunteers to do the work and donate materials.

And what about the business owners that actually take care of their property? Steve Luzzi, Brian Springberg, those guys must be pitching a fit. I'm sure they would like some free labor to do work around their buildings. Oh wait, I forgot. They don't qualify. They actually contribute to the community. "

" An especially big thsnk you to Mudshark Pizza for all of the pizza's and soda's they sent to feed the multitudes. It was greatly appreciated by all. I was especially happy to see all of the people that showed up to help. Many of the people of Lake Havasu were very generous of their time and the donations from local businesses was awe inspiring. This is a great place to live with a lot of caring people not afraid to get involved in their community. "

" Mr.Read appreciates you people working for him for FREE to make him more money when he sells the property. I'm sure he will give you all a chunk of the $16m+ he sells it for. If any of you want to come do some house cleaning at my house let me know. I will also not pay you just as much as Mr.Read and when I sell my house I will also not pay you. Any takers? What if I make it REALLY messy and stop taking care of it for a really long time? What if it gets so bad that my neighbors consider my property and eyesore? Will you come clean it up for free then? "
