A motorcyclist collided with a vehicle Friday morning just beyond the intersection of North Lake Havasu Avenue and South Palo Verde Boulevard, resulting in an injury accident.

Lake Havasu City Police Sgt. Grce said, Ellis Price, 80, was traveling northbound on Lake Havasu Avenue when his blue 2003 Harley Davidson hit the rear of a gray 2002 Mitsubishi driven by Casey Owens, 26, at 8:32 a.m. Grce said, Price tried to split traffic by quickly moving into the right lane in an attempt to avoid the accident.

Owens, also traveling northbound on Lake Havasu Avenue, had stopped in the roadway just north of the South Palo Verde Boulevard intersection to make a right-hand turn into the Arco Am/Pm service station.

“Everything went up into the air, he kept going and the motorcycle stopped,” said a witness, Phil Shelton, of Lake Havasu City.

Shelton was traveling westbound on South Palo Verde and was stopped at the traffic light of the intersection as Price passed by. Shelton said he could see the panic on Price’s face as his motorcycle approached the scene. He knew, Shelton said, that he was going to hit. Shelton immediately called the police when he saw the collision.

Lake Havasu City police responded to the accident call along with Fire Truck Five and River Medical.

Lake Havasu City Fire Department Battalion Chief Rick Felish said Price was conscious at the scene and complained of back pain to the paramedics.

Price was transported from the accident scene to Havasu Regional Medical Center by River Medical to be treated for his injuries.

Price was wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time the accident occurred.
