Child asks council for pool time

Nic Jones and his daughter, Gabi, stood before the Lake Havasu City Council Tuesday night, asking why the Aquatics Center would not let nine-year old Gabi swim early in the morning and hoping to garner some support.
Gabi Jones has now obtained almost 300 signatures of residents who back her cause to allow her to swim before school between 5-7 a.m.
Recently, the Aquatics Center changed its policy on who could swim early in the morning, disallowing anyone under the age of 18.
The change reportedly came after the Aquatics Center had received complaints from other swimmers in the morning about children in the pool.
Nic Jones says the problem is that is the only time his daughter can swim.
He said the Aquatics Center told him Gabi could come and do the Lap Swim from 1-2 p.m. The only problem is, Gabi, like every other child in the city is in school at that time.
Nic and his wife Shannon have backed Gabi the entire way with her signature-gathering process, trying to teach her how the system of government in the United States works.
Now, Nic and Gabi just hope their speech Tuesday would sway some of the minds on the council to support their cause. Only time will tell.
The council did not respond to the statement Tuesday night.
