The Parker-based Duckeyboy Boxing Club hosted its third annual smoker, “Showdown on the River,” Saturday at the BlueWater Resort & Casino.
Two Parker fighters had bouts during the smoker. Ahmmad Blackwater lost his bout in the 88-pound Intermediate Division to Sexson Vaughn. Andrew Honadick won his bout with Andrew Ericson of Prescott in the 140-pound Novice Division.
A fighter with strong ties to the Parker area, Ricky Flores, fought a bout under the direction of the Duckeyboy Club’s founder and president, Charles Duckey. He was assisted by Harry Laffoon IV. Flores was representing a club in Phoenix, which is where he usually fights.
The Azteca Boxing Club of Phoenix was named the outstanding club in the tournament.
The Duckeyboy Boxing Club was formed in 2007. The club is open to both boys and girls. They have participated in tournaments and smokers in Arizona, California and Nevada. The fights are sanctioned by USA Boxing.
The club’s previous smokers were held at Irataba Hall, which is located in the Colorado River Indian Tribes’ tribal offices complex.
The smoker was dedicated to the memory of Brenda and Gregory Welsh.
