Council selects familiar face for lobbyist group

The City Council decided to keep a familiar face involved in its lobbyist efforts.

The council selected Policy Impact Communications as its government relations consultant for the city by a 6-1 vote during the council’s regular meeting. Vice Mayor Dave McAtlin held the sole dissenting vote.

The council listened to former Lake Havasu City resident and Policy Impact Vice President Brian Tassinari, as well as representatives from Husk Partners and Landry, Creedon & Associates during a work session before the meeting.

“Quite honestly I think I was impressed with all three and I would’ve been happy selecting any one of them,” Mayor Mark Nexsen said. “His familiarity with the city and what he’s done for us has been a huge plus for me.”

The city agreed to enter into a contract with Policy Impact Communications for the proposed $56,000 for 12 months. Councilman Don Callahan was the only member that spoke about the selection during the meeting.

“I would like to be sure that whoever gets this is giving us up-to-date reports on a regular basis so we have a good idea of what’s happening,” Callahan said.

Councilman Brian Wedemeyer said Tassinari’s history with the city led to his vote.

“I think that Brian Tassinari is genuinely interested in Lake Havasu City’s success,” he said. “He has his roots here and I think he will be proactive for us. He’s not just going to respond to issues … I think he’s going take the initiative to look out for things coming our way.”

Tassinari formerly worked for Williams and Associates, the city’s previous lobbyist group. Williams and Associates did not submit a proposal to the city. Tassinari said he was responsible for submitting Policy Impact’s proposal.

“I grew up there and I love the city,” he said. “ I enjoyed working for them and I’m proud of work I’ve done. … Lake Havasu City needs representation more than it ever has and hopefully we can get some things back to the city.”

" When is the Mayor and the Council going to get it. We're tired of the same old - same old crud. So what if Tassinari has roots here, he also has history in an under-performing group that did little if anything of benefit for this city.

Lends some truth the the adage of the more things change the more they remain the same. We don't stand a chance! "

" It's funny to me they don't see the real problems, still staying with old ways and idea's old people in the good old boy what's ever good for me club. It's sad to see how shallow Havasu is. I diden't really exspect anything new. "

" The people are asking for change, why is it that Mr. McAtlin is the only one that hears us on this issue?

We need new ideas, not the same old tired ideas from the same old people, even if they have a new name and new company.

Make changes, we will at the next election. "
