Tony “Dyna” Montoni, passed away suddenly Saturday. He was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Beverly, Mass., to Congetta and Antonio Montoni.

He was a lifelong resident of Beverly, Mass., until he moved to Lake Havasu City in 1979. He was married in Beverly to his beloved wife of 57 years, Patricia. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was aboard the USS Franklin when it made history from its attack by a kamikaze plane in the Pacific. Upon that, he received his letter of commendation for “in the face of raging fires and further enemy attack — his courage, loyalty and devotion to duty.” After the war he owned his own business as a mason and was well respected as a master craftsman. He was generous with his time and incredible talents doing many things for many people. He is the epitome of the definition of the “greatest generation” — a man true to his principles, integrity and devotion to his family, friends and country. He will be deeply missed for his giving, loving nature and his ability to make people laugh.

Antonio is survived by his wife, Patricia (Ganey) Montoni, of Lake Havasu City; daughter, Donna Ambrifi, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; sons, Anthony, of Gloucester, Mass., Christopher and his wife Eileen, of Alexandria, Va.; as well as eight loving grandchildren, Sylvie, Emilie, Colette, Jason, Matthew, Brett, Nicholas and Rachel. He was the brother of the late Alphonse, Richard (Chicken), Vincenza Giardi, Mary O’Shea and Pauline Acciavatti. He also leaves behind his brother, Phillip; and sisters, Katherine P. Bunk, Margaret Colantoni, Beatrice Henebury, and Constance Theriault as well as many nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held today at 1 p.m. in the place he loved the most.
