Insley Evans moved to Lake Havasu City last year and almost immediately started trying to carve out a clean entertainment niche for youth here.
“We live in an upscale town and we deserve upscale entertainment,” 30-year-old Evans said.
His first shot on the local entertainment scene starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at Gallagher’s Dining and Pub at 3524 N. McCulloch Blvd. Two local radio disc jockeys will spin a variety of music from hip-hop to reggae. Cost is $10 and attendees must be at least 18 years old. The event includes free food, facials and makeovers. Evans said Saturday’s event wil be the after-party for the third annual Havasu Tattoo Show.
Evans also plans to host an alcohol-free and smoke-free event featuring live Christian artists for all ages March 5 at the Quality Inn & Suites at 271 S. Lake Havasu Ave. And another disc jockey event for adults is planned for March 12 at Shugrue’s Restaurant.
“I’m not into the trash,” Evans said. “I can’t stand that. Showing class is what we want people to see. Our motto is (if you do decide to drink), drink in moderation.”
Evans said he eventually plans to bring big entertainment names to the city and he hopes to one day have his own venue. He said he started promoting events in the entertainment industry after he graduated from the Army’s basic training when he was 19 years old. He was a military medical laboratory technician until 2003, which is also his current civil position at Havasu Regional Medical Center, he said.
He opened his entertainment business, KE & Associates in 1999, he said. Evans was also a semi-professional running back for the San Antonio Warriors.
“No matter where you go there is always a need for something,” he said. “It’s a scene to go to, not a nightclub.”
Tickets for the events are $10, or a discounted $7 to each event with a purchase of one $10 entertainment card.
