Havasu golfers form new junior travel team

LAKE HAVASU CITY — Some of the best junior golfers in Lake Havasu City have been assembled for Havasu’s first travel golf team.

The golf team is a mix of boys and girls ages 18-and-under, and will include high school players and those who attending high school next school year. Members include Taylor Byers, Brooke Gettess, Nick Lawrence, Brooke Gutierrez, Garret Luzzi, Nick Mininger, Elizabeth Walters, Ronny Phelps, Michael Wrona, Blake Bradley, Alyssa Pakes, Butch Gregg, Steven Stevens, Bailey O'Neil, Nick Butler, Kaitlyn Sweeney, Caitlyn Atencio and Jordan Ehgoetz.

The team, coached by professionals Berni Stump and Perry Billaud and junior golf coach Danny Stump, will hit the road for tournaments through the spring and summer and is hosting a pair of local events.

The first, March 20 at Havasu Island Golf Course, will be a four-person scramble with a shotgun start, teeing off at 8 a.m. The tournament is open to the public and the $50 entry fee includes greens fee, cart, lunch and awards. There will be a putting contest, closest to the pin, longest drive and longest putt.

The second tournament will take place May 29 at the Courses at London Bridge Golf Club.

Players may register for the March 20 tournament at Havasu Island Golf Course.

To raise money for travel, the team will also host a spaghetti dinner at the Eagles Club from 4-7 p.m. March 29. Donation is $7 and includes spaghetti, bread and salad.
