LAKE HAVASU CITY – Telesis Prep started off the 2010 season on the right foot Friday evening, saying no to the competition.

Jillian Danielson Photo/Special to News-Herald. Telesis’ Cory Quinn eyes the plate as he readies to pitch in the top of the second inning to Glendale Prep at John M. Wade Memorial Field Friday. Quinn tossed a no-hitter in the Tigers’ first game of the season, leading them to an 11-1 win.

Telesis’ Corey Quinn tossed a no-hitter and the Tigers defeated Glendale Prep 11-1 in five innings at John M. Wade Memorial Field at Lake Havasu High School.

“We played strongly until about the end of the third inning to where I started to struggle a bit,” said Quinn. “Then near the start of the fifth inning, I was getting my arm back and we took control of the game.”

Quinn led the Tigers at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance and two RBIs. Nate Merrill was 2-for-3 hitting a double, and Syracuse Sitzer with a 2-for-4 with a triple.

“We played strongly tonight,” said Quinn. “We hit hard, swung strong, and had good eyes all around. The team was very together with their plays.”

“It was our first game and we did well,” said Telesis Prep head coach Greg Bolton. “We worked well together, our hitting was good, and the team seemed relaxed on the field which I think helped them not be overwhelmed. Corey pitched well and by the time the fifth inning came around, he shut down the opponent. Simply put: I'm happy.”

Even Glendale Prep head coach Jon Ricky had to comment on Quinn's pitching.

“He pitched very well this evening,” said Ricky. “By the time the fifth inning came around, we were effectively stopped in our tracks. My team is young, and they gave it their all. Thanks to this match, they have learned some things, and will be able to apply them to further matches.”

The next game for the Tigers will be on March 23 against Mohave Accelerated Learning Center in Bullhead City.
