A branch of Arizona State University could open here in the fall of 2011, if an upcoming agreement is signed and if a study of the area concludes that the campus would be supported here, according to an ASU press release.

Officials from Lake Havasu City, the Havasu Foundation for Higher Education and the Lake Havasu Unified School District are all expected to vote on the agreement Tuesday.

The agreement would prompt a 45-study of the area — including utilizing the planned vacancy of Daytona Middle School — to determine if ASU’s expansion here would be feasible.

The Foundation has worked since 2004 to bring a four-year university here. Currently, Mohave Community College has one if its four branches here, along with an extended campus of Northern Arizona University.

Please read Today’s News-Herald Thursday to learn more about the agreement.

" As seen in the recent past, the locals don't support a top notch education in Havasu. Instead the city builds six more dog parks, invests in ugly rock cages, segways and denture cream. Enough said. "

" Build it and they will come. Hopefully they have some higher level Sci, Bio classes, and add some graduate level classes, as most 4 year colleges do (ie 500-700 level). But then again this is AZ. Wishfull thinkin ...eh? "
