An unidentified man nearly drowned in Bridgewater Channel about 2:10 p.m. Monday after he reportedly slipped from the top deck of a double-decked pontoon boat.
Whitt said emergency responders revived the man and his breathing was stabilized prior to transport however the man never regained consciousness during the ordeal.
The near drowning occurred on the east bank of Bridgewater Channel at marker No. 11, according to Lake Havasu City police on scene.
“We responded to the situation when they came on shore with him. I assisted my colleague, who was performing CPR, with rescue breathing,” said Good Samaritan Brian Apling, of Portland, Ore. Apling said he and his friend are trained first-responders in the community in which they live.
Both traveled to Havasu with a group of friends for the local spring break festivities.
“(The unidentified male)’s legs were blue and his fingers were blue when they started CPR … they tried to bring him back twice,” said onlooker Tyler Jacob, of Phoenix.
“(The unidentified male)’s hands were completely purple,” said onlooker Taylor Smith, also of Phoenix.
River Medical ambulance service transported the unidentified male to Havasu Regional Medical Center.
Battalion Chief Whitt reported late Monday afternoon the man was air evacuated by medical helicopter to Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas, which is a trauma center.
Lake Havasu City Fire Department responded with Engine No. 5 company and a battalion chief. Lake Havasu City Police Department also responded to the scene to assist with crowd control.
