Lake Havasu City Police Department has cited S-2 Contractors driver Clinton Davis, 30, of Mohave Valley, for exceeding the Havasu’s maximum vehicle height limit of 13 feet 6 inches.

The citation is the result of an incident that occurred Monday in the 3200 block of South Kiowa Boulevard in which Davis was driving a commercial vehicle towing a flatbed trailer. He was transporting a tract hoe/excavator on the trailer when he reportedly snagged a 240-count fiber optic NPG Cable line and a Frontier telephone line.

The truck snapped three UniSource Energy Services poles resulting in downed power lines atop houses in that neighborhood. The downed lines caused temporary power outages that affected about 100 homes and left 3,000 customers without television or Internet services for several hours Monday.

Davis’ vehicle measured between 18 feet 2 inches and 18 feet 6 inches during police investigations, according to department spokesman Sgt. Joe Harrold.

The mishap was processed as a civil traffic violation and Davis will be subject to the fines, he explained.

Harrold said there is an Arizona state law that says the driver and owner of vehicle in violation of height or weight restrictions can be held liable for damages.

Speed was not a factor in this incident, according to the police sergeant.
