Printable VersionKorri Porter was driving her two children up Jamaica Boulevard around 9:15 a.m. Friday when her 6-year-old daughter asked to unbuckle her seatbelt to get something from the back of the Ford Excursion.
Moments later another vehicle collided with her SUV deploying both vehicles’ airbags and cracking her windshield. Only minor injuries were reported in the accident, everyone was wearing seatbelts and no one was transported to the hospital, according to police.
Rene McClain, who was driving a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was cited for failing to yield, according to Lake Havasu City police officer Clint Wilcox. The Cruiser’s bumper was torn off during the collision. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
McClain, 28, was in the left-hand turn lane on Jamaica Boulevard facing down the hill in front of Neighbor’s Mart, to turn left onto Chemehuevi Boulevard.
Porter saw the Cruiser as she headed up the hill, but thought the driver would wait for her to pass before turning, she said.
“I’m just glad my kids are OK,” Porter said, who had her 6-year-old and her 2-year-old buckled in the back seat of the SUV.
McClain had one passenger, 23-year-old Daniel Velalicea.
Both McClain and Velalicea declined to comment.
