Havasu’s Sczesny named 8U’s outstanding goalie
Netminder Norfolk also takes honors for Havasu

LAKE HAVASU CITY — Havasu teams had trouble scoring wins at their home rink this weekend, though a pair of local netminders had no trouble scooping up individual honors.

Noah Sczesny and Ryanne Norfolk were both named the outstanding goalies for their divisions at the Havasu Hockey Experience Inline Hockey Association of Arizona tournament in at SARA Park Saturday and Sunday.

While Sczesny’s 8U team went 1-3, losing in the finals to the Prescott Storm 7-1, the young goalie had an amazing tournament. He faced 125 shots on goal in the tourney, including 30 in the opening 4-1 loss to the Yuma Blaze.

He finished play Sunday with an 83.87 saves percentage. And he kept his team in contention through overtime and an 11-round shootout in the Dust Devils’ 9-8 win over Yuma in the semifinals.

Norfolk was named the Group B outstanding goalie in the high school club team division, leading her Knights to a 1-2 record and a 3-2 win in the consolation game over Yuma Gila Ridge Black. Norfolk faced 57 shots on goal and had 89.47 saves percentage in the three game tournament.

In other action Sunday, the 10U Lake Havasu City Dust Devils were shutout in the tournament, finishing with no goals scored and an 0-3 record.

The 12U Dust Devils posted a similar 0-3 record, though Havasu scored once.

The Havasu teams get two weeks to make adjustments, and then it’s off to another tournament in Prescott, April 9-11.
