Lake Havasu City Police Department detectives continue with investigations into a shooting spree that left five Havasu residents dead and injured one woman late Saturday when Brian Diez, 26, also of Havasu, reportedly entered a residence and began shooting.
Harrold did however say a restraining order served on Diez Feb. 10, preventing him from any contact with Deborah Langstaff or their two children, 13-month-old Cole Diez and 4-year-old Kaia Diez. The order also granted Langstaff exclusive use of the residence.
On Aug. 13, local police arrested Diez and charged him with interfering with judicial proceedings after he allegedly contacted Langstaff via cell phone, text message and in person at a resort in the 1000 block of North McCulloch Boulevard, according to police reports.
According to the report, Langstaff had gone out with friends when she received a text from Diez stating “I have something that is very very important to give you. It can’t wait (redacted) please call me.” She reportedly saved but ignored the texts.
While at the movies, Langstaff kept receiving phone calls from Diez, but ignored them. She began to think that Diez was inside the theater with her. She got scared, left the movie early and exited out the rear of the movie theater only to fine Diez’ vehicle parked next to her own, according to the police report.
Langstaff contacted a friend to pick her up from the movies and they went to a bar at a resort in the 100 bock of North McCulloch Boulevard. When they were there, one of her friends saw Diez on the balcony outside of the restaurant staring at them.
While sitting alone by the docks of the resort, Langstaff was approached by Diez. Langstaff informed him she had contacted authorities.
During police investigations with Diez, he stated he was at Site Six with a friend to watch people get their boats off the water. He and his 17-year-old friend went to the resort, but since his friend was underage they went to upstairs to the restaurant’s balcony and saw Langstaff below.
The two left and went for a walk to a nearby cove.
As Diez and his friend were leaving, he saw Langstaff sitting by the docks and approached her. As he did so, Diez told her he didn’t want to start any problems, the police report said.
When police asked Diez about the initial text message sent to Langstaff, he informed police Langstaff had asked him to move a vehicle. He then told police Langstaff was ignoring his phone calls.
Police investigations with the 17-year-old male determined the two had left the restaurant balcony and went for a walk in the cove after Diez was upset by seeing ex-wife — Langstaff — at the resort bar.
According to the report, Diez was arrested after allegedly admitted he text messaged Langstaff, called her and contacted her in person. He was transported to the Havasu jail where he was booked without incident.
The arrest was a few weeks prior to Diez unlawful entrance into Langstaff’s home in the 300 block of Opposum Drive where he opened fire with a handgun killing five Havasu residence and injuring one. After the incident, Diez took his two children and fled three hours to Rancho Cucamonga where he found safekeeping for the youngsters with a family member before taking his own life.
