Mayor Mark Nexsen and council members David McAtlin and Margaret Nyberg are only a few formal steps away from retaining their seats in November.

The City Council is set to declare the Aug. 24 election results official during a special meeting at 5 p.m. today in city council chambers in the police facility. McAtlin (4,969 votes) and Nyberg (4,496 votes) each earned more than 50 percent of the total ballots required to retain their seats while Nexsen obtained 6,506 votes running unopposed in the primary. The candidates are also expected to receive certificates of election and runners-up Sonny Borrelli (3,944 votes) and Shawna Thornton (3,531 votes) are expected to receive certificates of nomination. Borrelli and Thornton will run for the third council seat in the November general election.

“This is just to follow statute … and confirm that the election returns are correct and they’re declaring them to be official,” said City Clerk Carla Simendich, adding that the special meeting will be a public hearing. “We normally don’t hear public comments but if for any reason someone thinks the results aren’t official then they could speak.”

The Mohave County Board of Supervisors canvassed and declared the results Sept. 2. Simendich said McAtlin, Nyberg and the winner of the general election for the third council seat are scheduled to take up their positions Nov. 23. The third council member will replace councilman Brian Wedemeyer who did not run for reelection.

According to city records, the official results of the Lake Havasu City Primary Election were as follows:

Mark Nexsen 6,506 votes

David McAtlin 4,969 votes

Margaret Nyberg 4,496 votes

Sonny Borrelli 3,944 votes

Shawna Thornton 3,531 votes

LaJuana Gillette 2,575 votes

Note: Gillette and write-in Dairo Mark Veit were eliminated in the primary.

" I don't care if you believe I post under different names. I know I only post under one. Is it so hard for you to concieve that other people are sick of the constant nasty negativity? Maybe it is hard for you to believe, but I am proud to say I like LHC. And obviously so are others. And don't worry about me getting out I enjoy my life. More than I can say for most who 'vent' on here. We know what your agenda is - good luck in the election! "

" well I have been watching for awhile and just got fed up with people on here who keep clearly violating the TOS by attacking posters. You, underr various names, keep attacking people who come here to vent. How you do you know what people do besides vent on here? I have read where people have also written, spoke in front of council, and made great suggestions. You have relentlessly attacked trying to change the topic.
I also know that you have not attacked people who have written complaints about the FD even though you throw them in the mix when nobody mentions them like now and that goes for the sewer system or school.
So why not? Why do you only appear on here to attack posters who write about our PD? What is your agenda?
It is you who needs to get out the house and experience the town you defend. You will see that it is a great place but it has it dark side - and some of that is the PD. The PD knows about it and they are trying to change the image. You do not help anyone by attacking including the City, the council ,the PD or the FD.
As for the Judge, ya he does need to go. "

" You must be new to this forum (or at least a new name?). This has been going on for years, way before the economy crash even. The PD is just the lastest 'target.' Last year it was the one judge the bashers attacked. Before that it was the FD. And so on. Eventually it will come full circle. This anonymous forum is too inviting to those who like to complain. The ones who really want to generate change are out making a difference, not degrading our city on the internet. Happy a nice day! "

" You are never under attack. You are being responded too when you attack others when you attack them for being critical of the PD. You do not say a word when someone is critical of the sewer system, school, the local football team, our tourists-- all of whom are part of fabric of our city.
So please stop pretending you are defending the city from attackers when all you do is try to change the subject when people are critical of our fine PD.
As another poster said, our PD is not perfect and from time to time they deserve some heat for thier actions. Its only right that people can air the grievences anonymously about the government.
If you want to stop feeling people are attacking you then participate in the discussions and stop attacking others. "

" Who is attacking whom? lol It appears you continue to attack me just because I disagree with you. Yes, please post the IP. I only post under one name. That is why I am always under attack. lol
Oh well, to each their own-I will continue to enjoy my life, and those who want to complain will always find something to whine about....we shall see....we shall see... "

" Congrats to the candidates. it is too bad your shine is being dragged down in the mud by a multiple name poster who attacks only those who disagree with the police. The police do a great job but even they admit they are not perfect and it never hurts to discuss problems.
PS I would love to see how many names one poster who constantly violates the TOS by attacking other posters is using so by all means editor, post the IP's. "

" Thanks Tom G. My prediction is if the newspaper did indeed look at the ISP addresses associated with this forum, there would only be one or two posters using different names writing negative, hateful posts. Most people like this community and enjoy their lives. Thanks for the reply! "

" Desertrat wrote [in part] "Isn't that interesting? The haters on here say they want to clean up the courts, clean up the PD, clean up the council, clean up the FD, etc...".

Tom G. responds. Don't get discouraged Desertrat - they will be back, LOL. Some are probably typing away as I write this post.

Don't forget, this blog is only a very small demographic and only one small indicator of 'citizen satisfaction'. Just because there are a few vocal individuals on this form who will find fault no matter what happens - that does not mean they are in the majority in the community. It only means they have taken the time to select a factious name, logged in and express their opinion. I have never written to the Editor to find out if some form of demographics could be determined from the postings but that would also be an interesting study.

If the election results are any measure of 'citizen satisfaction' then it appears the negative posters here are either a very small minority of the community or are out of touch with the realities that exist in the community.

In either case, your post was Interesting.
    Tom G. "
