LAKE HAVASU CITY — The Tigers’ late season addition put up big numbers, just not enough to help the team score a homecoming win.
The Tigers were without three starters due to injury — Fabian Damien, Jon Ufers and Jordan Skinner — but the Tigers had the addition of running back/linebacker Javaree Thompson.
Thompson accounted for all of Telesis’ points in the game and wasted no time, running 67-yards for a score in the opening minutes of the game, on just his second touch from the line of scrimmage.
After the Patriots went up 14-6, Thompson got his second score, an 83-yard run back on the kickoff to tie the game at 14-14.
The Patriots systematically moved the ball downfield while limiting the Tigers to three-and-outs in the first half, allowing James Madison to build a 38-14 lead at the half.
James Madison scored again to open the third quarter, right before Thompson put up the final Telesis points of the game, again on a 67-yard from the line of scrimmage that saw him cut against the grain and run across field to avoid the Patriot tackles.’
But James Madison got the points right back on their next possession.
“They’re in great shape, they never slowed down and brought the intensity every down,” Telesis head coach Landon Merrill said about the Patriots.
“It’s tough having three starters out injured but we should have been able to handle the game. We made big mental errors that we can’t make against a team like this.”
Telesis turned the ball over twice — both on fumble — while James Madison played error free.
Telesis (4-5) is on the road next week, traveling to Quartzsite to take on Scholars Academy.
