There’s pretty much only one reason why the Rockabilly Hall of Fame staff decided to makes its only sanctioned event in Lake Havasu City — Kennie Cuppetelli.
Cuppetelli hosted the 3rd annual Lake Havasu Rockabilly Reunion, which ends today.
The event features live bands, pin up girl contests, classic car shows and vendors. The event this year ballooned from last year featuring more bands, vendors and cars.
The Hall of Fame, based in Nashville, Tenn., featured the event on their website. The organization started in 1997 to present early rock ‘n roll history information, according to its website.
Barker said he was in the region in 2010 and stopped by the event with family. He said he spoke to Cuppetelli at that time and liked that the event showcased young talent.
“I was just impressed with what he had going,” Barker said. “It just seemed like this guy has got it all together. They are doing it right.”
Barker said the music’s sound draws him to Rockabilly.
“I love the slap bass sound,” he said. “I love the simplicity of the music.”
Barker said the Hall of Fame’s sanctioning helps make the event credible. He said there was no cost to sanction the event.
“I just love to see an event that is taking off like this and is gaining the popularity,” Barker said.
