Telesis to face Crestview Prep in quarterfinals

LAKE HAVASU CITY — The Tigers and the nation’s best pickpocket can start preparing for their next opponent.


No. 3 Telesis will face No. 6 Phoenix Crestview College Prep in the quarterfinals of the Charter Athletic Association 2A Division State Playoffs, Wednesday.

The Tigers (16-1) advanced to the quarterfinal round following a 66-27 opening round win over Fort Mohave Academy of Building Industries Friday, at Needles High School.

Meanwhile Crestview (14-4) defeated No. 11 Jess Schwartz Jewish Community Day School, 63-49, in Friday’s opener.

Crestview is averaging 62.06 points per game while giving up just 37.12. However, against Top 10 teams Crestview is 0-1 and just 4-4 against CAA teams ranked in the Top 25.

Telesis comes into the game averaging 50.44 points per game while giving up 32.44.

The Tigers are led by guard Fabian Damien, who is leading the nation in steals with an average of 8.3 per game. He’s also averaging 17.3 points and 7.5 assists per game.

Kris Larson has a double-double going for the season. He’s averaging 15.5 points per game and 11 rebounds per game for the Tigers.

The quarterfinal game will take place Wednesday at 6 p.m., at Sequoia Pathway School in Maricopa.

Of the four Mohave County teams that started the CAA 2A and 3A Tournaments, only two remain alive. No. 4 Bullhead City Mohave Accelerated Learning Center (11-3) advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2A Division playoffs, with a 58-54 win over No. 13 Gilbert Early College Prep Friday.

Over in the 3A Division, No. 6 Kingman Academy High School was knocked out in the first round by No. 11 Chandler Prep, 60-48, Friday.
