GLENDALE — Maybe it was playing the game in the sun, and all that extra Vitamin D that made the difference.
“It was another shoot-out,” said Telesis head coach Chris Denney. “Tony (Hill) and Jordan (Clingerman) had monster games and when they do, we know that we can stay in the game.”
Clingerman got the Tigers on the board first, running a fake punt 50 yards for the game’s first TD. He added two more scores, both off Hill passes, and accounted for 244 yards of total offense — 97 yards rushing and 147 yard receiving.
Meanwhile Hill passed for 160 yards and three touchdowns, the third going to Austin Weymer. Hill also rushed for 163 yards and four touchdowns and he scored one more on defense, running back an interception 70 yards for the score.
“Offensively, we were only stopped twice. And both were on fourth-and-one (situations),” Denney said. “The offensive line did a good job of giving Tony the time he needed in the pocket.”
Defensively, the Tigers continued to struggle. Saturday’s game was the sixth in seven games Telesis’ defense gave up 50 or more points.
“Defensively, we’re just not tackling. But we’ll keep working on it,” Denney said.
Thomy Comer led the team with 12 tackles in the game while Jake Vickers had 11.
The Tigers have a short week, playing Quartzsite Scholars Academy on Friday in Telesis’ homecoming game.
“The boys have worked so hard and so long for this win. Now hopefully we can keep it going forward so we can give the hometown a chance to watch a win. So we can say thanks for all their support,” Denney said.
The Telesis-Scholars game will take place at ASU at Lake Havasu Field, Friday, at 7 p.m.
