PARKER — Just call the Lady Broncs the giant killers.
“We work on our fast break a lot during practice. We make sure we get our passes right,” said Parker’s Monique LeVie.
The fast break off Palo Verde turnovers allowed LeVie to score nine of her game-high 17 points in the first quarter and help the Lady Broncs build a 19-1 lead.
That lead expanded to 33-5 by the end of the first half, as LeVie started to dish to Roslyn Carlyle, Rosa Mercado and Sydney Harper.
The Lady Yellow Jackets made a small move in the third, thanks to Bre Jordan. Jordan chipped in six, with four coming off one play. She was fouled as she sank a field goal, missed the free throw but no one attempted to rebound so she walked into the paint and laid in the ball for another bucket.
But the Parker defense kicked back in, forcing turnovers helping close the game with an 8-0 run, again off Palo Verde turnovers.
“We knew we could run, so this game I really wanted to get the posts more involved, getting them more opportunities to score. And we did,” said Parker head coach Shawn Thompson. “Our passing exploited the holes in the zone well and I was satisfied with our defense.”
Carlyle finished with 12 points while Shawni Laffoon and Sydney Fisher each scored eight.
Jordan led the Lady Yellow Jackets with 11 points while Louisa Gonzalez and Angelique Ramirez finished with three points each.
The Lady Broncs (8-13 overall, 3-1 in region) are back in action Tuesday, hosting River Valley (6-11, 2-1) in a 3A West Region match. On Jan. 18, Parker limited River Valley’s 6-foot-5 center Katie Simpson to 5-of-31 shooting in the Lady Broncs’ 34-31 win in Mohave Valley.
