Beginning today, the Lake Havasu Music, Brews and BBQ Championship charity event kicks off.
Designated as an official Arizona Centennial event, gates open at noon today, with special entry for handicapped people from 10 a.m. to noon. Saturday hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Located at Lake Havasu State Park, Windsor 4, admission is $5 per person and includes both days. Children 12 and younger are free.
More than 70 teams will participate in cookin’ up some of the best mouth-watering barbecue with additional categories including chili, salsa and desserts.
Live entertainment will include an appearance of the Arizona Centennial Copper Chopper (with the opportunity to enter an contest to win the bike), bands, a kids’ carnival and more.
Proceeds from the newly formed nonprofit Cooking 4 Kids and Hunger, will benefit the Interagency Council Community Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, H.A.V.E.N., Food 4 Kids backpack programs and Havasu for Youth.
When the chutes open Saturday in the Friends of the Fair rodeo grounds at SARA Park, lookout for some wild and wooly cowboys and cowgirls doing what they do best.
The Grand Canyon Pro Rodeo again visits Lake Havasu City with 241 registered contestants participating in the two-day event. The rodeo begins Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.
There will be bareback riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, team roping, barrel racing and of course, bull riding.
Pure family fun accompanies the pro rodeo with Little Delbert Days. Event booths are set up next to the rodeo grounds for children’s activities including gold panning, children’s rodeo events like mutton bustin’ and more.
Tickets for the event will only be sold at the gate. Ticket prices are $10 for adults aged 16 and older. Children 15 years old and younger are free. Admission also includes entry to Little Delbert Days. Parking is free. As cars enter the parking lot, there will be several entry lines to choose from to pay for tickets. Tickets sales will be cash only.
For the flavor to the West, both literally and figuratively, Lake Havasu City is the place to be this weekend.
