Kuch repeats at Yuma Marathon

YUMA – Dan Kuch ran through the pain to repeat as champ of the Yuma Territorial Marathon.

Given his current health, Havasu’s top long distance runner considered not defending his 2011 title. But, he said, “They gave me free admission and a hotel room for winning last year, so I figured why not.”

Despite suffering an abdominal injury, Kuch was able run the straight, flat course in a time of 2:42:45, almost 12 minutes faster than the second place finisher but about three minutes slower than last year.

“The wind was stronger this year and I was running injured, so I’m happy with the result,” Kuch said.

Kuch said his next move is dependant on his doctor’s prognosis. He goes in this week for an MRI, and could be looking at surgery. If not, he said he’ll try to run the IMS Arizona Marathon, in Glendale, on Feb. 19.
