PARKER — Offroad racers and fans gathered Thursday afternoon in downtown Parker for the Downtown Experience Show and Shine and Street Fair, one of the events leading up to this weekend’s BlueWater Resort & Casino/Best in the Desert Parker 425.

The Downtown Experience Show and Shine and Street Fair featured live music and food vendors. And fans had a chance to meet the racers and get up close and personal with their machines.

The featured attraction was the Arizona Centennial Copper Chopper, the official mascot of Arizona’s Centennial Celebration. Mary Hamilton, director of the Parker Area Tourism Committee had worked for months to have the motorcycle appear at the Downtown Experience.

On Wednesday, youngsters met local racers and got a close look at the vehicles in Pop Harvey Park. And a Parker-based online radio show, “The Down and Dirty Off-Road show,” at http://www.downanddirtyshow.com, had a live remote broadcast from the River’s Edge Cantina at the BlueWater.

The party continued into Thursday evening and there will be more events today in anticipation of the BlueWater Resort & Casino/Best in the Desert Parker 425, which will be run on Saturday. Registration will take place in the Mohave Room at BlueWater, while contingency and technical inspection will be Friday afternoon in the BlueWater’s north parking lot.
