The Lake Havasu Unified School District governing board will vote Tuesday night during its regular meeting on reinstating free full-day kindergarten at all schools for the 2012-2013 school year.

The board started charging tuition in the 10-11 school year due to a decrease of state funding and voters’ declination to renew a property tax that partially funded the district.

The board also will decide if the district should adopt school shirt uniform policy for elementary schools in the 2012-13 school year and vote on approving a one-time $1,500 cost-of-living payment for full-time employees. The board also is expected to announce a committee’s recommendation to replace Director of Personnel and Technology Barb Goodwin, who is taking a similar position in a Phoenix-area school district at the end of the school year.

The board meeting begins at 6 p.m. in Building C at 2200 Havasupai Blvd. The meeting is open to the public. The public can provide comments to the board during the Call to the Public portion of the meeting. Comments are asked to be limited to five minutes and a form must be filled out. The board also is unable to directly respond to comments provided during this section of the agenda.

Today’s News-Herald is expects to have more details on the agenda items in its Sunday edition.

For more information about the meeting, call the district at (928) 505-6925.

" local421 - that's why I chose to take my daughter to Telesis for kindergarten last year. It was out of the way for us, but I'm glad I did and not just because it was free! The classes are smaller and my daughter is now reading well above grade level. $525 a month is a complete joke and offering it for free is a slap in the face to all the parents who sacrificed to make sure their children had a decent start to their education. " This whole thing makes me upset. This year I had to pay $525.00 a month for my daughter to go to shcool because the city "didn't take payments" for all day kindergarten they wanted all the money up front. Now there offering all day kindergarten free. Thanks alot city officials it cost me almost $7000.00 and in this ecomomy it wasn't easy. Take your heads out of your and make up your minds. "

" Free day care? Let me guess...you obviously don't have children or your children are grown. Kindergarten is so much more than "free day care". It gives children a foundation for their education and helps reinforce what parents should be teaching their children at home. Stop thinking everyone wants a hand out. "

" Curious where the money is coming from to fund "full day" kindergarten and to fund a cost of living allowance for employees? If they are able to return full day kindergarten without an override, all parents that paid for it since the failure of the budget override should be reimbursed. Obviously the LHUSD had the money all along. Maybe charging parents $1800 a year was just a scare tactic that didn't work. What say you? "

" More people leaving the administration - GOOD! They all need to be replaced! So you made parents pay for Kindergarten and now all of a sudden you want to reinstate it? Wow! The nerve...Long live the charter schools.... "

" The board seems to have been lying to us, crying poor and wanting to get more tax money from the public. Reinstating free full-day kindergarten at all schools need to be paid for by the parents, any way you package it is free DAY CARE. "
