At least a dozen judges declared Patricia Genovese as Ms. Havasu Senior 2012 Sunday afternoon during the three-hour sixth annual pageant at London Bridge Resort.

The yearly pageant, hosted by Prestige Assisted Living in Lake Havasu City, sold out of its 300 tickets a few weeks ago.

“We had to turn them away,” said pageant co-chairwoman Denise Johnk. “We’ve kind of outgrown the resort.”

This year, there were 10 contestants. And this is the first year a mother and daughter were vying for the crown, Johnk said.

During the talent portion of the competition, Genovese wowed judges with her ballet/tap routine to the song “Blue Danube.”

Fellow pageant contestant Catherine Crandall was named first-runner up and is eligible for the crown if Genovese is unable to fulfill her reign. Crandall’s talent impressed judges when she comically presented on the topic of not having talent.

Each contestant is a Havasu resident and at least 60 years of age. The three categories are talent, evening gown, and philosophy-of-life.

The show includes live entertainment and a silent auction. Items up for bid included artwork, home décor, jewelry, a collection of plastic storage containers, gift baskets, electronics, tabletop centerpieces, wine baskets, sports memorabilia, and a tool box.

Live entertainment included performances by entertainer Corey Janecek, singer Matt Farris, and local Zumba dancers.

“All contestants were fabulous and all did a really good job,” Johnk said. “It was really difficult to judge for the judges.”

The crown was turned over to Genovese by last year’s winner, Margie Snyder, Ms. Havasu Senior 2011.
