New paved parking for Swap Meet patrons could be on the way if the Lake Havasu City Council signs off on a plan for a 70 space lot off of Paseo Del Sol Avenue.
London Bridge Plaza, Inc. is seeking approval from the council to create a 70 space lot in a dirt and rocky area of about .46 acres that already is used by Swap Meet patrons and is owned by the city.
The city would bear no financial burden for creating the paved lot, but would take on the long term maintenance, which will not require added personnel or equipment, according to a city staff report.
It’s a good solution, said Mayor Mark Nexsen.
Swap Meet patrons who already park there will get rocks in the street when they grind their wheels leaving their parking spot, Nexsen said. The city has to clean that up, but with a 70 space completed parking lot that wouldn’t be a problem, he added.
Specifics of the parking lot, including whether it would include landscaping weren’t available in the city staff report and city officials did not know if that was a part of the plan.
The parking lot is a dirt plantar area between the frontage road and Highway 95, said City Manager Charlie Cassens.
“People leaving the (dirt parking) often leave a mess when they spin their tires and shoot rocks and dirt into the street,” Cassens said.
“We’re all for (it being paved),” Cassens said. “Because when they make a mess, it’s our forces that have to clean it up. We regularly maintain it anyway.”
The Swap Meet is held from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Sunday through May in London Bridge Shopping Center, 112 London Bridge Road.
