The appointment of new high school principal, changes to extracurricular activities for tax credits and approval of career and technology student organization travel are some of the items to be discussed at the Lake Havasu Unified School District governing work session at 6 p.m. today.

The board will discuss the appointment of a new high school principal, which is expected to be announced at the meeting. Parents and school staff met to review applicants and selected qualified candidates for interviews. The final selection will be shared at tonight’s governing board session.

Also on the agenda is the removal of four extracurricular clubs in the middle school and high school. At the high school level, considered for termination are the Gay Straight Alliance club (GSA) due to a lack of interest and the Chemistry club since it has merged into one STEM club.

Thunderbolt Middle School is requesting closure of the other two clubs at that school. The first is soccer because it was not active in the 2012-2013 school year and will not be active in the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. The other is the tutoring and student intervention program.

The board will also consider revising reference documentation for the Teacher Evaluation and Growth System. The district will implement new framework for a teacher evaluation that includes quantitative data on student academic progress that accounts for 33 percent of the evaluation outcomes. The policy will be revised to address the provisions of House Bill 2823, which deals with schools, teacher and principal evaluation systems.

Other action items and information to be discussed include an award of bid for a food service company, approval of elementary and middle school student handbooks for the 2014-2015 school year and staff compensation packages.

The meeting will take place at the District Office located at 2200 Havasupai Blvd. Building C. at 6 p.m. For more information, call Lake Havasu Unified School District at (928) 505-6900.
