Lake Havasu City’s Staples store will host its annual Teacher Appreciation Day Aug. 3, offering free breakfast to all area educators.

The event begins at 8 a.m. — an hour before the store opens — and also includes a raffle of gifts donated by area businesses and a 15 percent discount on all of the teachers’ purchases. Staples stores across the country are participating.

“It’s a great, fun day to give (teachers) some good stuff and a good time and show our appreciation,” said Amber Calles, copy center supervisor at the Lake Havasu Staples and an organizer of the event.

Calles said she is still looking for additional donations from businesses and commented that the donated gifts do not have to be related to education. For instance, in 2012 Michael Alan Furnishings provided lamps and pillows.

“Last year, we had 50 businesses donate things for the teachers, and right now I am at 37 (businesses). I am hoping to match last year or do more,” Calles said.
