A Wyoming woman died Friday a few hours after suffering injuries that occurred while she was overtaken by her runaway vehicle outside a residence in the 300 block of Coral Drive in Lake Havasu City.
Emergency responders were contacted by a neighbor about 2:46 p.m. Friday.
“It was reported as an unknown problem and we responded as a fire (department) assist,” said Lake Havasu City Police Cpl. Chad Williams, Sunday. “There was a female laying injured and unresponsive in the roadway.”
Police arrived on scene to find Lake Havasu City fire department medics treating 63-year-old Sheryl Robertson, a part-time resident of Havasu, for multiple injuries including severe head trauma.
Further investigation revealed Robertson had just arrived home and parked her vehicle on an elevated portion adjacent to the driveway. At this time, police believe the manual-transmission black 1998 Volkswagen two-door convertible jumped out of gear.
“It began rolling and knocked her down,” Williams said.
The incident occurred as Robertson was attempting to exit the driver’s side door. She was knocked down, dragged down the driveway and presumably ran over, according to police reports.
Robertson was transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at about 5:30 p.m.
Alcohol isn’t believed to be a factor in the incident.
