Ambrose A. Callahan was born to Catherine and Ambrose Callahan in Long Island, N.Y. Ambrose spent 35 years in the construction field, maintaining his lifelong membership in the New York District Carpenters Union. He was an avid sculler, teaming with his brother, Robert, in national competitions as a member of the N.Y. Athletic Club. He added ski instructing to his many talents upon moving to Aspen, Colo., in the mid 1970s where he met his best friend and wife, Betsy. They moved to San Diego for a short time, then settled in Lake Havasu City in 1989.

Colleen was born in 1953 in Bertha, Minn., to William and Mary Cluka. Her family, including her two brothers and three sisters, spent time living in both Chester and Conrad, Mont., before settling in Columbia Falls, Mont., around 1965. Colleen graduated from Columbia Falls High School in 1971. In 1976, she married Richard Gordon, of Whitefish, Mont. In 1977, Colleen gave birth to her son and only child, Jesse.

Earl Foster Murphy passed away Feb. 6. He was born in Toronto, Kan., May 12, 1923, to Edith Walden and George Murphy. He married Lois Meyers March 8, 1947, in Washington, D.C. They lived in D.C. for a short time, one year in Iola, Kan., and four years in Detroit, Mich., where he received his engineering degree. They moved to Flint, Mich., in 1952 to work for AC Spark Plug (a division of General Motors) as an engineer in research and development until he retired in 1980. They made their home in Flint, and Fenton, Mich., until they moved to Lake Havasu City in 1992. They had been coming to Lake Havasu City as “snowbirds” since 1985. He loved to explore the desert and the casinos and spend special time with his grandchildren.

Jim Zimmerman, 73, of Hot Springs, Ark., died Feb. 4, at a Little Rock hospital. He was born July 25, 1936, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Henry Herschel and Ruth Esther (Lane) Zimmerman. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He was an Air Force veteran, member of the Elks Club, Moose Lodge and American Legion. He is predeceased by a son, David Lane Zimmerman.

Vickie Ann Caudill, 58, of Palm Coast, Fla., passed away peacefully on Jan. 5. Vickie retired from AT&T after 30 years of service. She had recently worked for Palm Coast Data and also served as the primary caregiver for her disabled mother. Vickie resided in Lake Havasu City for several years before returning to Florida to care for her mother in 2005.

He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, woodworking and four-wheeling in the desert.

Doris had a career as an electronic assembler, last working at Parko Electronics, then continued working out of her home. She loved bingo, bowling and visiting the casinos. She also loved her crafts, gardening and her many, many poodles. She was a member of the CB Club, Pigeon Club and the Bowling League. She enjoyed camping, fishing and boating with her husband and family. She was loved and will be missed by all.

In 1953, she moved to Flint, Mich., with her family and met Neal Canada and they were married in 1955. Gertie and Neal started their loving home by having two children, Donna and Joseph, and raised them both in Michigan.

Elias matured into a strong and self-reliant being at an early age, and eventually married the mother of his children, Celia. Elias and Celia began a life together in Aguascalientes, Mexico, with soon-to-come children: Rosa Imelda, Antonio Armando and Juan Francisco.

She graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy in 1946 and worked at the Rutland Hospital until she married her best friend, Edward C. Minard Sr., on June 24, 1950, at Saint Patrick's Church in Wallingford, Vt. and together raised seven children. She was a homemaker for many years and worked in the family business, FMF, until moving to Long Beach, Calif., in 1969 where she worked as a sales person for BAP Geon and Impac. She moved to Lake Havasu City in March 2007 due to health reasons. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved having family around, the holidays, sewing, crafts, reading, gambling, the ocean, and whale watching.

Rita Sandford
Rita Sandford, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend died on July 6, at Loma Linda University Hospital in California. She had been given a second chance at life five years earlier on July 17 when UCLA Lung Transplant Center gave her a lung in 2004. She was the oldest living lung transplant recipient at that time. Rita was their “Miracle Girl” who blazed the trail for others to receive such gifts in their ’70s.

Sherry Katherine Jester passed away on Sunday in Las Vegas at Sunrise Hospital after a short but valiant battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on March 6, 1959 in Bell Gardens, Calif., to Jacob and Barbara Glatt. She married the love of her life Robert Jester on Feb. 11, 1978. They made Chino Hills, Calif., their home for 16 years and then retired to Lake Havasu City in 2004 where they built their dream home and lived happily for the next five years. Never were two souls more connected, and she will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.
