She will be very dearly missed for her independence, stårength, good spirit, beautiful smile, friendly nature, loyalty and generosity. She married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Johnson, and they spent 57 years together. While in Minneapolis she worked in medical offices, and tested cakes for Betty Crocker.

Wayne Webster Powell passed away May 12, in Lake Havasu City. He was born in Burlington, Vt., May 25, 1933. He moved to Long Beach, Calif., in 1940, where he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served in Korea. He became a Deputy Sheriff in 1950 for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASO). He married Kathleen June 21, 1961, and adopted her sons, John and Richard. They moved to La Palma, Calif., in 1966 to make their home.

She lived in Hawaii for 20 years before moving to Southern California. In 2007, she moved to Lake Havasu City with her life partner of 30 years, Randi Smith. During her life she had a passion for sales and marketing and owned her own small retail, resale business. In 2008, she joined Wal-Mart when they opened the new store. Keiko was known for her great service with a smile in the deli department.

MARY JANE REHL
Mary Jane Rehl, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2012, with her daughter by her side. Born the middle child to Thomas & Martha Price on November 12, 1927, in Memphis, Tenn., Mary Jane would not let her eventual disabilities slow her down. Stricken with polio in 1953, she became wheelchair bound for the next 58 years. She never let that chair stop her from anything she wanted to do. After moving from California to Lake Havasu City in 1971, she worked for Les Galst at Londonderry Realty until his retirement and then for Classic Realty. In 1988, she began to volunteer at the Senior Center and did so for eight years before becoming the Office Assistant, a position she held for the past 15 years. She loved her work and she loved the people. She was truly blessed with an abundance of friends. She was an inspiration to many and loved by all.

Norma Lee Blumenstock, 97, passed April 5, at the Granite View Adult Care Home, in Prescott, Ariz., where she had resided for the last 12 years. She was born Feb. 17, 1915, to George and Eva (Hiatt) Firkins in Moravia, Iowa, where she lived until she married Wilhelm "Bill" Blumenstock in 1935. She had taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Iowa. Bill and Norma Lee lived in Hibbing, Minn., where their first four children were born, before moving to Sonoma, Calif., during World War II, where Bill worked at Mare Island Ship Yard. They moved to Garberville, Calif., in 1945, where Bill worked as an electrical contractor, and they owned the Garberville Electric store. Two more children were born in Garberville. They moved to New Mexico in 1965, then to Lake Havasu City, in 1967, where they lived for 30 years.

He moved to Canada from Germany with his family in 1966 and then he and Erika relocated to Lake Havasu City in 1980.

Frank Trombetta
Frank was born July 10, 1944, in Wyandotte, Mich., to Frank and Althea Trombetta. Frank moved to Lake Havasu City in 2005. He passed away at LHRC with congestive heart failure March 14. He fought a long battle with this disease and other illnesses. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; son, Ryan; and brother, Dennis (Laura); nephews, Nick (Christy) Trombetta, Marcus Trombetta, Jason (Debbie) Clement, and John (Erin) Clement IV; and nieces, Carey (Jon) Haller and Jennifer (Mike) Neff. His many great-nephews and great-nieces will remember “Uncle Frank” and his many kindnesses over the years. His dog, Furio, also survives him and was showered with Frank’s love and affection. Frank went to SARA Park almost every morning. Dogs were always a very special part of his life.

Rudolph is survived by his three sons, Jonathan and wife Bonnie from Fallston, Md.; William Jr. and wife Mellissa from San Diego, Calif., and Robert from Pasadena, Calif.; as well as two grandchildren, Jonathan and Linda; and his long-time companion, Ellen Chapman. He is predeceased by his wife, Linda Karpa, and sister, Elaine Berland.

On February 25, 2012, Margaret McCartney passed away in her home in Lake Havasu City. Her family here, sons Ed and his wife Shelley McCartney, and Steve McCartney; and daughter, Karen Mansfield were at her side. She reached out and helped many people in her lifetime. The family feels so blessed that she lived long enough to see all her sons and daughters, six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and yes, even nine great-great grandchildren turn to the Lord our Father. She will be truly missed by her remaining brothers, Sonny, Jack and Vern; and sisters, Lil, Leola and Mona; and everybody’s life she touched. Margaret was a loving and joyful Christian woman bringing Love, God & Joy to all. Services will be at a later date. We love you mom.

Ruth Isabelle (Kerskamp) Rathbun of Needham, Mass., formerly of Lake Havasu City and Appleton, Wis., died peacefully Feb. 10, 2012 in her home at North Hill, at the age of 93. Beloved wife of the late Howard J. Rathbun, U.S. Army (Ret.). Loving mother of Jennifer M. Rathbun and her husband, David B. Herzog of Newton, Mass. Devoted grandmother of Jonathan R. Herzog of Newton, Mass. and Matthew A. Herzog of Boston, Mass. Ruth graduated in 1939 from the Milwaukee Hospital School of Nursing and studied public health at Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wis. She lived her life as the wife of an Army officer, traveling throughout the United States, Panama and Europe. She worked and volunteered as a nurse her entire life, until she and Howard retired in Lake Havasu City in 1975. Ruth was always a good friend and kind neighbor. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband at a later date.

After graduation, Marie attended Southeast Missouri State and obtained a teaching certificate, after which she taught in rural, one-room schoolhouses for several years.

Gilbert (Bert) M. Keller died Feb. 21. He was born in Los Angeles April 8, 1928, and retired to Lake Havasu City in 1987. Bert, as he was known by friends and family, served in the U.S. Army 1946-1948. He graduated from Woodbury College and then attended the National Training School for professional Scout executives and served in the Los Angeles Area Council, Boy Scouts of America in various administrative positions for 36 years. As a boy, he had earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Dee F. Bradley, 76, of Olathe, Kan. passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at his home. Dee was born in 1935 in Pleasanton, Kan. to Frank and Sadie Bradley. He was a 1953 graduate of Pleasanton High School where he was a 1953 All State basketball player and president of his class. He attended Fort Scott Jr. College from 1954-1955. Dee was employed by Household Finance from 1955-1960. He married Eddie Neese in 1958. He attended Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wis. in 1964. Dee was employed by Johnson County Bank from 1960-1970. He was President of 1st National Bank of Olathe from 1970-1973, then purchased Olathe Ford that year. He went on to be a Director for 1st National Bank of Olathe, President of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce in 1971, Director of Kansas City Ford Dealers, Ford Advertising Foundation and Mid-America Nazarene College. He was a member of Ararat Shriners in Kansas City, Grace United Methodist Church and the Olathe Medical Center hospital boards. He was also a member of Shadow Glen Golf Course in Olathe and London Bridge Golf course in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Gloria I. Hancock
Gloria I. Hancock 76, passed away Sunday Feb. 12 in Lake Havasu City. She was born May 15, 1935 in a hotel in the gold mining town of Nevada City, Calif. Gloria began her career as a operator for Western Union in Sacramento, Calif. and continued in the field of tele-communications for many years. It was while serving as a teletype operator at the Naval Air Station in Alameda Calif. that she met her future husband, Lewis Hancock. They married on the 7th of March, 1970 and spent 42 wonderful years together, traveling and living in Greece, Morocco, Spain and Puerto Rico. Upon their retirement they returned to Nevada City where Gloria was active with the First Baptist Church serving as the secretary for many years. She was also active with the women’s activities and teacher of the primary children's Sunday school class for six years. Gloria loved and served her Lord and Savior in every area in which she was called. After her husband retired from a second career she relocated to Lake Havasu City in 2003 where she attended Calvary Baptist Church. Gloria loved everyone, but especially enjoyed children. She enjoyed traveling with their camping group, playing Bunco with friends and especially doing crafts. Always an artist, she had recently filled her days with card making and scrapbooking. A loving wife, caring mother and faithful friend, she will be dearly missed. Gloria is survived by her loving husband, children, grandchildren and her beloved Yorki, Maggie. A Celebration of Life and Memorial for Gloria will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 1605 S. McCulloch Blvd. on Friday the 17th of February at 1 p.m.

Franklin Dow Bowman, 93, passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, with his lovely wife of 66 years, Bette Bowman; daughter, Pam Weigum and her husband, Jon, of Meridian, Idaho; and grandchildren, Scott Whitaker of Burbank, Calif. and Amanda Weigum of Spokane, Wash., by his side. Frank is also survived by his son, James Bowman and his wife, Lynda of Houston, Texas; and Scott’s wife, Malia Whitaker and their two children; and Frank’s great-grandchildren, Connor and Ryley of Burbank, Calif. Frank is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Donna L. Farley, 76, of Richmond, Va., left this earth a better place Jan. 16. She was born in Wyandotte, Mich., to David and Margaret Robinson. Formerly of Lake Havasu City, she leaves behind her three children Karen, Jim and Sue; daughter-in-law, Sarah; six grandchildren Jessica, Matt, Joseph, Nick, Luke and Jake; her sister and brother-in-law, Bev and Roy Fischer; nephew, David Fischer; and niece, Beth Gee and husband Chris. She devoted her career and retirement years to the American Red Cross, serving in leadership roles both in Akron, Ohio, and National Disaster Services. Donna loved the desert scenery and climate of Lake Havasu City, and only recently moved to Richmond hoping to enjoy her final years closer to family. Throughout her life, caring for pets, birds and other wildlife was her passion. Her grocery list often included more food for roadrunners, bunnies and quail than it did for herself. Her children adored her many exceptional qualities, including her wit and humor, courage and strength through difficult times and generous heart to helping those less fortunate. A private family service will take place at a later date. She was preceded in death by her beloved father and mother Stephen and Margaret Valko. She is survived by her children, Donna Betten, Toms River N.J., William A. Bielecki, Scottsdale, and Timothy Bielecki, Lake Havasu City; her sister Rosemary Kingma, Rochelle Park, N.J., brother Richard Valko, Flint, Mich. and seven grandchildren.

Markham Loomis who he married May 30, 1968 in Lomita, Calif. Other survivors include three sons Martin (Tanya) Edgley and Edward Edgley both of Lomita, Calif., Sam (Trish) Loomis, Jr. of Rosedale, Ind.; two daughters Kathi (Donald) Andrews of Parker, Ariz. Sandra (Rick) Phillips of Rosedale, Ind.; one brother Charles Loomis of Rosedale, Ind.; one sister Daisy Palmer of Texas; fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother Derald Loomis, Jr. He served his country in the United States Army, Navy and Marines. He was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of the last graduating class of Bridgeton High School in 1959 and was a member of the American Legion Tony Kashon Post# 290 in Rosedale. He enjoyed fishing.

On the morning of Nov. 4, just before sunrise, the sun set on the life of Maurice “Moose Face” Rigdon, one of Havasu’s true pioneers. Moose came to Lake Havasu in 1966, and was the first manager of the first grocery store in town, Claypools Market. That is when I met him. For the next three years, he was my boss and why he never fired me, I will never know.

Mary Elizabeth Church Sweeney, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, Pa., formerly of Lake Havasu City, went to be with the Lord Tuesday. She was born Nov. 2, 1922, in North Syracuse, N.Y., a daughter of the late Charles and Kathryn Kane Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in death by her first husband, John Sweeney; her second husband, Robert Campbell; two sisters and two brothers. Mary is survived by her daughter, Maureen Ferree, of Mt. Pleasant; her son, Robert Sweeney, of Parker; her grandchildren, Christina, Scott, Danielle and Timothy; and her great-grandchildren, Adessa and Alexis. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church while she lived in Lake Havasu City. She graduated from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing and began her career as a Navy nurse. She went on to work as a school nurse for Warners Elementary School near Syracuse, N.Y. She moved to Lake Havasu City in 1973. Golfing was her passion and she was a familiar face on the greens of Lake Havasu. She worked at the Nautical Golf Course for many years.

She also leaves behind her brother, Joseph Hauswirth, of Watertown, Mass.; nephews and nieces, Joe, Jack, Cathy and Susan; sister-in-law, Wilma Hauswirth; and her best childhood friend, Peggy Lane. She will be missed by all. Kirk Scott Cookson, 58, died Thurs., Sept. 15, in Lake Havasu City, where she has lived for the last 20 years. Kirk was born in Tucson, Jan. 4, 1953. She was a 1970 graduate of Tucson High School. She attended Scripps College in Claremont, Calif., before graduating Cum Laude with her bachelor’s degree from The University of Arizona. Later she received her Law Degree from Whittier Law School in Los Angeles, graduating Magna Cum Laude. After practicing in Los Angeles, she returned to Tucson. She was in private practice and then became an Appeals Judge in the Department of Economic Security, Unemployment Department. She then served as a Justice of the Peace, Pro Tempore, and a Tucson City Magistrate, Pro Tempore. She then became the Town Attorney in the Town of Marana, until she relocated to Lake Havasu City as the City Prosecutor. For the past 15 years, she engaged in private practice of law. Kirk was a passionate football and soccer fan, an avid reader and seamstress and loved crocheting. The last few years she was taking classes to learn other crafts, including weaving.

Her family continues to live in Lake Havasu City. She enjoyed watching the annual NCAA basketball tournament, game shows, and Regis in the morning. She loved to walk, read the morning paper and the Bible, play cards, and she attended church daily. She was a devout Catholic and believed in prayer. She told those who were troubled to “pray about it!”

Hubert Gregory Stanton Jr., 82, of Litchfield Park, Ariz., passed away Saturday, at Hospice of Arizona. He was born June 16, 1929, in New York City, to Col. Hubert Gregory Stanton Sr. (USMA 1911) and Geraldine Stanton. Hubert was part of Strategic Air Command as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He moved his family to Arizona in October of ‘72, retired from the military to Lake Havasu and became a small-business owner of a clothing store, Barkley’s House of Leather, with his wife, Ginger. They then moved to Tempe, where he attended ASU for a degree in accounting. When he retired from accounting, he was working for John C. Lincoln Hospital in Payson. Hubert was a member of Phi Gama Delta, the Military Officers Association of America, 3080th Aviation Depot Group, Nuclear Weapons Technicians Association and The Church at Litchfield Park.

Leo D. Schubert
Leo passed away peacefully in Apache Junction, and his home for the last six years. He was 80 and was preceded in death by the love of his life, Joanne; and by his son; Patrick. Leo was born and raised in Detroit, Mich., and spent four years in the Air Force. Upon his discharge, he resettled in Michigan, where they raised their family. The family moved to Colorado and then to California and upon retiring, moved to Lake Havasu City. Leo was a master carpenter and general contractor, spending many years doing what he loved in the building industry. While in Lake Havasu, Leo was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, which allowed him to spend many holiday weekends patrolling the Lake, an activity he loved. He was also active in the Lake Havasu Democratic Party.

James L. Johnson, 62, also known as “JJ” and to his loved ones as “Peepers,” passed away in the morning hours of Aug. 17, from a very long illness. JJ was born in Mason City, Iowa, Oct. 9, 1948, to Betty and Lewis Johnson.

John Arthur Williams
John Arthur Williams, 85, passed away Aug. 17. John was a native of Denver, Colo., and was a Yorktown resident since June 16. He served as a Combat Air Crewman in the U.S. Navy during World War II, including being present in Tokyo Harbor at the Japanese surrender. After the war, he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. He was employed by the San Diego Unified School District as a business teacher for more than 30 years and retired in 1985. John enjoyed many years of retirement in Lake Havasu City.

Lyla M. Fausz, 84 years young, died Aug. 8, in Tucson, where she resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Larry Brown for three and a half years. Lyla was a resident of Lake Havasu City for more than 40 years. Best known by many Lake Havasu residents as, “the chili lady” for her work organizing the successful Lake Havasu Chili Cook Off, which gave money to many LHC organizations — i.e. Humane Society, Senior Center, Police and Fire departments — to name just a few. Her other hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, collecting cookbooks and loving her dog, Laci.

Charlie Fraser passed from this earth Aug. 11. He was born Charles Duncan Fraser Aug. 22, 1934, in Missoula, Mont., to Archie and Dorothy Fraser, the third of four children and the only boy. He grew up near the tiny town of Hall, Mont., where his father had a small ranch. Charlie grew up ranching logging, hunting and fishing.

She then moved to Venice, Calif., went to work for General Telephone, where she met Roy Wiseman, and they were happily married for 55 years. They lived in Lake Havasu City for 25 years.

Charles Muller passed away Tuesday. He was born in San Pedro, Calif., June 25, 1929. He retired from the LA City Fire Department (Fire Boat #4) in 1980 and moved to Havasu Landing in 1981, where he had been vacationing for more than 25 years. He moved to Lake Havasu City in 1995.

Ted is survived by his wife of 26 years, Marlene; sister, Daisy Popovich; brother, Slobodan and Margaret Galeb, all of Saratoga, Calif. Children, Pam, Patty, Robert, Rebecca, Roberta, Lynn, Thomas, Chandra and Lisa; 11 grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews. He will be loved and missed by all his many friends here in Lake Havasu from London Bridge Golf Course, Eagles, Elks and Masonic Lodges. Last but not least, his two pets Molly and Teddy Galeb. As per Theodore's request his body has been cremated and a celebration of his life will be in Saratoga, Calif., and Lake Havasu City, at a later date to be announced.

Yvonne Marie Young passed away Mon. July 25, surrounded by her family after having fought a courageous battle with cancer. Born Jan. 20, 1942 in Omaha, Neb., she moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1955 and graduated from Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek. She eventually raised her three children in the Bay area. Yvonne worked for the Contra Costa County School District Offices for 17 years before moving to Carlsbad and Oceanside areas of Southern California. In June of 1992 she married her present husband Jim Young of Escondido, Calif.

Clara Alice Flesner
Clara A. Flesner, 91, of Sun City, died at home July 19. She was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Dwight, Neb., to Frank and Mary Yurka. She was the youngest of six children. During infancy, she was baptized and became a child of God. A happy childhood was spent growing up on the family farm. She graduated from Virginia High School, Neb., and attended Peru State College, Neb. She went on to teach elementary grades near her home for five years. She married Virgil Flesner May 17, 1944. To this union were born Todd Edward and Debra Sue. They lived near and in Beatrice, Neb., until June of 1969 when they moved to Lake Havasu City. Clara and her husband, Virgil, and son, Todd, opened Havasu Iron & Metal in 1974. Her favorite comment was “We have the best customers in town.” After retiring at the age of 85, she moved to Sun City, to be near her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Europe. He lived in Los Angeles, Calif., and worked for the motion picture industry in the Technicolor Division. Upon retirement, he moved to Lake Havasu City.

Gladys Kelley, of Glendale, passed away June 27. She was born in Kelley, Mont., on July 16, 1929. A lover of the Montana Mountains, but it was the Arizona desert that warmed her heart, moving to Arizona in 1969. She worked as a medical records librarian and carried her skills with her to the Salome Medical Center and then to Boecon Construction Co., working on the Central Arizona Project. She directed several singing groups, including the Wickenburg Christmas Choir in 1997-1998. Gladys was a proud survivor of polio since being diagnosed in 1952.

Pat passed away peacefully in Lake Havasu City, at Serenity Assisted Living with loving staff by her side on June 23, 2011. She was just 87 years young. Pat was born in Springfield, Mass. to Clarke and Erma L. (Rose) Cloran. She graduated from West Springfield High School in 1941 and took many night courses there, and at Western N.E. College and A.I.C. in Springfield, Mass. She was an eager learner throughout her life.

She was the 11th of 12 children and was teased by her siblings with the title Lady Jane because of her love of neatness. Myrtle’s genealogy searches show direct lines to family from Wales and Germany arriving in America in the 1600s.

Hal moved with his family in the early 1940s to California, settling in the Long Beach area. He graduated from David Starr Jordan High School in 1951.

Hildreth June (Huskey) Gullyes
Hildreth June (Huskey) Gullyes passed away June 6, at the age of 65. She was born on April 14, 1946, in Redlands, Calif. She moved to Lake Havasu in 1968, when it was just Site 6, with her mother and had her son, Steve. Though never having her name mentioned with the Pioneers of Havasu, she helped build the service industry here. She worked at the Havasu Hotel, Nautical Inn and the Pub. She eventually became the bar manager at the Pub and then bought her own restaurant, Hildreth's Frigate. After she sold the restaurant in the mid ’80s, she continued to work in the restaurant/bar industry until she retired with her husband Joe to San Diego in 2006.

Ronald E. Worsham
Prominent Southwest artist, Ronald E. Worsham, passed away suddenly May 15, while wintering in Lake Havasu City. Ron was born in Jackson, Mich., April 29, 1944. He was an active member in the art community in Lake Havasu City and Kingman. Ron operated his own art gallery for more than 20 years. Ron taught art classes up and down the Colorado River during the winter months, summer months in Jackson, Mich.

Wanda Lee Hoelscher passed away peacefully May 27, in Lake Havasu City. She was born on May 7, 1941, in St. Louis, Mo., to Arthur and Ester (Johns) Worley.

Beryl B. Pearce
Beryl was the daughter of Dr. Conrad M. Barnes and M. Alice Thrower Barnes. She was born and raised in Seneca, Kan. She earned her gold award in Girl Scouting. Beryl earned a Masters degree in English from Kansas University at Lawrence. She married Ray Pearce on April 5, 1964. Together they were early residents of Lake Havasu City, arriving here from Kansas City in 1969. Beryl had a variety of careers in Lake Havasu. For many years after arriving she owned and operated Beryl’s Books, a full-line general bookstore. She spent some years as a local journalist. At different times she worked for both the Herald and the Today’s News. She spent many years as a social worker with DES, and most recently taught English at Telesis. While working these careers she was also the organist for Grace Episcopal Church for numerous years and the organist and musician for St. Michaels Methodist for some years.

Linda Marie Watson was born on Aug. 10, 1948 in Basin, Wyo., to Sheldon and Dorene Taylor. She was a graduate of Natrona County High School in Casper, Wyo., and Casper College and the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo. She taught school for 35 years in Wyoming, Ohio and Arizona, retiring in 2007 from Oro Grande Elementary School in Lake Havasu City.

Donald W. Tibbles, 87, passed away on Sept. 20 in Lake Havasu City. He was born on May 24, 1922 in Elko, Nev.

Rita Sandford
Rita Sandford, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend died on July 6, at Loma Linda University Hospital in California. She had been given a second chance at life five years earlier on July 17 when UCLA Lung Transplant Center gave her a lung in 2004. She was the oldest living lung transplant recipient at that time. Rita was their “Miracle Girl” who blazed the trail for others to receive such gifts in their ’70s.

Sherry Katherine Jester
Sherry Katherine Jester passed away on Sunday in Las Vegas at Sunrise Hospital after a short but valiant battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on March 6, 1959 in Bell Gardens, Calif., to Jacob and Barbara Glatt. She married the love of her life Robert Jester on Feb. 11, 1978. They made Chino Hills, Calif., their home for 16 years and then retired to Lake Havasu City in 2004 where they built their dream home and lived happily for the next five years. Never were two souls more connected, and she will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.
