Testing Taste of Havasu - About 900 attend event; estimated $20,000 raised
STAFF REPORTS
Gusty desert winds didn’t spoil the enjoyment
of about 900 people who sampled the
offerings of 19 local restaurants at Monday’s
Taste of Havasu. “Everybody did a fantastic job and — no pun
intended — weathered through it,” said Victoria
Cowper, event organizer.
Proceeds, which included ticket sales and a
contribution by sponsor Wells Fargo Bank, were
estimated at about $20,000, Cowper said.
That was an increase of more than 100 percent
over the past year’s event, which brought
in $8,000. “We have this community that just keeps giving,”
Cowper said.
The annual event is the major fundraiser of
the K-12 Foundation, which donates money to
the city’s schools to be used at their discretion.
In June, the foundation contributed $27,000 to
the Lake Havasu Unified schools. The gift was
divided evenly among the nine schools, which
used it to buy everything from reading materials
to a power washer.
