PARKER — The Lady Broncs softball team lost Tuesday to the Estrella Foothills Wolves of Goodyear, 10-2, but Coach Marlon Short said this was the best they’d played against the Wolves in some time. In years past, the Lady Broncs routinely had the 10-run “mercy rule” invoked when they played the Wolves, one of the traditional state powerhouses in 3A softball.

They were pounded 8-2 by Calexico, Calif. in the first game, and then got a even bigger pounding in their second game as they fell to Valley Center, Calif., 15-0. They came back to win their third game, 7-6, over host team Yuma Catholic.

3 Broncs earns all-region soccer honors
Two Broncs were named Arizona Interscholastic Association 2010-11 3A-1A West All-Region first team in soccer, and another PHS player named an honorable mention. Diego Frausto, shown here dribbling the ball, led the Broncs with 20 goals and two assists. Alfonso Lamas (11) was next for the Broncs with 11 goals and seven assists. Earning honorable mention was Parker defender Isidro Lamas, Yuma Catholic, Wellton Antelope and Goodyear Estrella Foothills also had three players named to the 3A-1A West All-Region team while Wickenburg had two. Player of the Year was Yuma Catholic’s Kody King and Coach of the year was Estrella Foothills’ Joe Rhoades.
Scorpions baseball gets underway
The Lake Havasu Scorpions 8U division baseball team made its debut at the Red White and Blue Presidents Day Tournament in Las Vegas last month. The Scorpions came home 0-4, losing a pair of close games to the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. The Scorpions return to action in a Lake Havasu City tournament, April 9. There will also be a carwash at Tri-M mini mart on March 19 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to raise money for baseball equipment. Havasu teen a Las Vegas champ
Kyle Niquette, local Legend Car racer from Lake Havasu City, won the Silver State Series Road Course Championship, dominating the series in the Young Lions/Semi Pro Division. Niquette, 15, a freshman at LHHS, won seven of the eight races held at the Las Vegas track. The competition is from December to February on several different course layouts ranging from 1.2 to 2.5 miles long, reaching speeds of over 130 mph. Niquette also competes on the oval tracks in Albuquerque. N.M., San Bernardino, Calif., Las Vegas, Blythe, Calif. and at Havasu 95 Speedway. Niquette and the Legend Cars return to Havasu 95 Speedway on Feb. 26.
