My grandma should be the model for the socks that say, “If you can read this, I’m watching Hallmark movies.” I can picture her all snuggled up with a blanket and a hot cup of coffee, and not just in the winter, because she is always cold.
There is just something so comforting about snuggling up on the couch with a hot drink and a feel-good movie. It’s no wonder that so many people, like my grandma, love Hallmark movies. They draw people in and keep them coming back.
The Hallmark Channel is known as the heart of TV. My grandma, Gloria Pusateri, calls it her “Happy Channel.” And who could blame her?
“I probably got hooked on the Hallmark movies when they first started the 'Countdown to Christmas' 10 years ago,” she said. “They also have a countdown to Valentine’s Day, countdown to summer, as well as 'The Garage Sale Mysteries' and 'Crossword Mysteries,' plus their regular movies, which are equally good," she said.
"I can honestly say since retirement I have stayed up until 2 or 3 in the morning watching all the 'Countdown to Christmas' movies. It doesn’t matter if I’ve seen the movie before or not as they’re so entertaining that I can watch them over and over again," she said. "Quite a few of the same actors appear in various movies, and one grows familiar and attached to the characters of a story, which makes it even more interesting.”
Pusateri feels Hallmark movies are more family-friendly than other options on TV and can be enjoyed by all age groups.
“It’s always nice for me to turn on the Hallmark Channel and watch something where life always ends ‘Happily ever after!’,” she said. “My hubby never understood why I continuously watch this channel, however, he sometimes sits down with me now and watches for a while, too.”
Another big fan of Hallmark movies is Vickie Gray. She said the first deep breath of fall chill in the air and the sign of changing leaves mean it's almost that time of year. Hallmark movie season!
“Hallmark movies are a true winter wonderland of adventure suitable for the whole family,” she said. “They are the icon of how American life is supposed to be. In the end the outcome is always good. ... The perfect way to top off a cup of hot chocolate and some ‘curl up on the couch time.’
"Why do we love Hallmark movies? It's where everyone's heart goes for the holidays with added sparkle and sprinkles,” she said.
So, if you find yourself with a bit of free time this busy season, get out the blanket, make a hot drink and try tuning in to one of these heartwarming holiday movies. Maybe you'll fall in love.
