FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — A Flagstaff police officer has died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said Sunday.

Police said officers conducted a welfare check Saturday and Jarrett Shughart was found dead at his home.

They said no other persons were at the home at the time officers arrived and the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office has assumed the investigation of Shughart’s death.

Shughart had been with the Flagstaff Police Department since October 2014.

He had served as a field training officer and police said Shughart was most recently assigned in a light-duty capacity due to a work-related injury.
