A California woman was cited Aug. 31 on charges of interfering with navigation when she allegedly swam into the middle of the Bridgewater Channel. According to police, 33-year-old Ventura resident Sandra E. Rios was warned by officers to return to shore as she swam into the channel to retrieve a beach ball, interrupting the course of several passing boats.

When Rios appeared to be out of harm’s way, officers directed her to shore and confronted her. According to the report, Rios said it was her first time in Havasu, and was unaware of city ordinances against swimming in the Bridgewater Channel.
