Two Kingman residents were arrested Tuesday on charges of trespassing when they allegedly took up residence in an unoccupied home for as long as five months, without the owner’s knowledge or permission.
The property owner, who had been away from the residence, allegedly contacted the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office after receiving an unusually high water bill for the property this month. He contacted his water company, the report said, and representatives allegedly told him that his name was no longer on the home’s account.
The property owner allegedly went to the residence, where he found 31-year-old Dale M. Nelson and 18-year-old Taylor M. Snow residing. The property owner told Nelson and Snow that they would need to leave, the report said. When he returned to the residence on Sept. 21, however, both were still living on the property.
Deputies went to the residence last Thursday and spoke to the occupants. Nelson allegedly told detectives he had been given permission from a family member to move into the residence. Snow allegedly admitted to moving into the residence, believing it to be abandoned.
Both were charged with first-degree criminal trespassing and transported to Mohave County Jail without incident.
