According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, a 21-year-old Texas man attempted to escape from deputies’ custody Tuesday during an appearance at Mohave Superior Court.
Sideon Johnson, of Pflugerville, was originally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana for transportation or sale, according to Mohave County Jail records. Johnson had just been placed into custody by the presiding judge, and Johnson allegedly asked the judge if he could make a phone call before he was taken to Mohave County Jail. The judge gave Johnson permission to do so, provided he remained in the courtroom. When the judge left the courtroom, however, Johnson allegedly attempted to do the same.
Detention officers allegedly ordered Johnson to stop, according to the report, but Johnson attempted to push his way past them and ran toward the door of the courtroom. Officers attempted to subdue Johnson, who allegedly bit one detention officer’s forearm during the struggle.
The guard suffered minor injuries, and Johnson was transported to Mohave County Jail without further incident. Johnson has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a correction employee, one count of aggrevated assault against a public defender and one count of third degree escape from custody. He remains in custody at Mohave County Jail on $20,000 bond.
