Lake Havasu City Police officers responded to a Fremont Drive address on Sept. 28 after receiving reports of a traffic accident. According to the police report, Joseph C. Lewis, 68, had been driving his vehicle on Fremont Drive when he allegedly struck a mailbox and an unoccupied vehicle parked on the street.
Lewis was found a short distance away from the scene of the accident, sitting on a curb as officers arrived. According to the report, Lewis told officers he had lost consciousness while driving, and allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol before driving. Officers smelled the odor of alcohol on Lewis’ breath, the report said, and asked him to perform a series of field sobriety tests. Lewis allegedly declined, and was transported to Lake Havasu City Jail.
A test of Lewis’ breath at the facility allegedly showed a blood.
