Lake Havasu City Police officers were called last Wednesday to the intersection of Simitan Drive and Kiowa Boulevard after receiving reports of a hit-and-run accident. According to witnesses, a man later identified as 27-year-old Alonso Ramos, of Havasu, attempted to flee the scene on foot after the accident.
The trailer’s owner saw the incident and chased Ramos, the report said. The owner attempted to detain Ramos, and a fistfight ensued between them. According to police, Ramos was able to escape, and was later found by police at the scene.
Ramos initially said he was distracted by a text message at the time of the accident, and allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol before driving. Ramos was subjected to a series of field sobriety tests, the report said, and was arrested at the scene.
A search of Ramos’ vehicle and the surrounding area allegedly yielded multiple containers of alcohol, as well as a plastic bag containing suspected cocaine. Ramos was transported to Lake Havasu City Jail, where a breath test recorded his blood-alcohol concentration as 0.198%, the report said.
He has been charged with misdemeanor counts of DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, and leaving the scene of an accident. There was also a warrant for his arrest on charges of failure to comply with a court order.
