Hundreds of Lake Havasu City visitors and residents gathered along the banks of Bridgewater Channel Friday for the start of this year’s Desert Storm boat parade.

Dozens of high-performance watercraft swept through the channel for Friday’s event, many of which are expected to participate in this weekend’s Desert Storm Poker Run.

The boats began their parade at Thompson Bay, and cruised through Bridgewater Channel and underneath the London Bridge as spectators looked on, many in boats of their own along the channel’s banks. Following the parade, performance watercraft owners set out to begin the event’s annual poker run event, requiring several stops at locations throughout Lake Havasu. Winners of the poker run were announced Friday evening.

Desert Storm will continue this morning with the event’s famous Shootout, where performance watercraft are scheduled to race south along Lake Havasu from Site Six. The shootout will take place today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
